Welcome to our first report of 2023! We'll keep it short and sweet since our last report was quite lengthy
Women's day, Earth Hour and Easter
March was a jam packed month where Celeste Aída led this outstanding food delivery and workshop. As usual, Carmen, Isabel, Victor, Estuardo and Jose supported us in Concepcion Pinula, as of course Fernando. Directly from the smallholder farmers, directly to the village, the food delivery consisted of pineapples, avocados, broccolis, guisquiles, rice and bowls. Moreover, we had a pop quiz for the women in the audience. And Nutrivesa, our partner, developed a workshop on organic farming. This time, we reached 250 families, with women being the majority, followed by children, and now more men participated in the event. There was music, enthusiasm and all through nutritious foods and soils! This is how we celebrated Women's Day, Earth Hour, as well as a preparation for Easter. Thank you! Also, thanks to our continuous support, new businesses keep on selling more fruits and veggies in the village, and we are also providing employment in the healthy food branch!
Women and Photography at the US Embassy in Guatemala
A portrait of Celeste during one of last year's food deliveries is now on exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City. During Women's History Month, the Embassy inaugurated a series of photographs taken from alumni of US Department of State programs, as well as from the staff. In this case, Bibi la Luz, the founder of Wa'ik, is a Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI 2016) a State Department led program for entrepreneurs throughout the Americas - launched by President Obama. Thank you Diana, Melissa and Ambassador Popp.
Congratulations to Amb. McCain as the new Director of WFP!
Thank you David Beasley for directing WFP for so many years. Bibi la Luz, our Founder and David were both speakers at the WFP Innovation in Colombia. We congratulate Cindy McCain on being appointed the new Executive Director of the World Food Programme. It was an absolute pleasure to share with you insights during your meeting in Guatemala a few months ago. Let's keep on collaborating to meet the food and nutritional needs everywhere!
Momo is now in dog heaven
With great sorrow, Momo passed away and now, we have her in our memory and love within us. We named her Momo, meaning peach in Japanese, she loved mangoes, watermelon, bananas, and papaya. She was a Quality Checker of the Improved Food Baskets, she loved eating the guisquil and zucchini when we prepared for the food deliveries, and also picked her own toothbrush from one of the bags (no worries, we replaced it with a new one!). She was full of energy, speed in running, loving the field and the Wa'ik orchard, she brought unconditional love and taught us so many lessons. Thank you and we miss you.
