In Taiwan, there are 1.6 million populations a year suffering from hunger! Yet, more than 100 tons of food are thrown away. The Mustard Seed Mission has established community food banks all over Taiwan and the main goal is to reduce food waste and end hunger. The food bank network receives donated food from the locals and companies and delivers the resources to the nearby families in need and communities. It helps donated food to be efficiently distributed and utilized!
People, shops, or corporations will donate fresh food such as meat, vegetables, or fruits and the amounts are unpredictable. Without refrigerators and trucks, those foods will turn rotted easily before delivering to needy people or families. It causes food-waste again! Refrigerators and trucks will help us to keep food in good conditions so that needy people are able to have fresh foods!
The project aims to upgrade the efficiency of food distribution centers and to maintain food condition before it's delivered. Food trucks with frozen system and fridges would help keep the food in good conditions when receiving a huge amount of donated fresh foods. Besides, with the food bank management installment, distribution centers and each food bank can really manage the donation efficiently and reduce the food waste.
286 community food banks in Taiwan will be benefited. Each community food bank is able to serve 80 people in average per month. In total, 129,000 people will be benefited and reduce more than 130,000 kg food waste!
