In Taiwan, there are 1.6 million populations a year suffering from hunger! Yet, more than 100 tons of food are thrown away. The Mustard Seed Mission has established community food banks all over Taiwan and the main goal is to reduce food waste and end hunger. The food bank network receives donated food from the locals and companies and delivers the resources to the nearby families in need and communities. It helps donated food to be efficiently distributed and utilized!
In Taiwan, there are 1.6 million populations a year suffering from hunger! Yet, more than 100 tons of food are wasted. People, shops, or corporations donate fresh food to our community food banks to and the donations are unpredictable. Without refrigerators or proper storage, those foods will turn rotted easily before the needy families have them. It causes food-waste again!
The project aims to upgrade the efficiency of food distribution centers and to maintain food condition before it's delivered. With the help of fridges, proper storage and quick delivery would keep the food in good conditions when the vulnerable receive it. Besides, with the food bank management installment, distribution centers, and each food bank can manage the donated food efficiently and reduce food waste, ensuring more people in need in the community to starve no more.
Through the food banks service, more than 10,800 beneficiaries will be provided and 285 community food banks in Taiwan will be improved. Each community food bank is able to serve 40 people in average per month all over Taiwan. With the establishment of a hunger-free network, more than 130,000 kg food waste are reduced in a year, as an gradual advance to reach Zero Hunger (UN SDG2) in Taiwan!
