Provision of Food and Medical to 45 children

This second quarter was less challenging than the first quarter of this year. Tahanan ng Pagmamahal was blessed enough to have been able to provide thirty-five (35) children with home-cooked, nutritious balanced meals made with meat and vegetables. These meals were supplemented with milk, fruits and vitamins as well.

Covid protocols have continued in becoming less stringent and have enabled Tahanan ng Pagmamahal to start in letting the seventeen (17) older children ages four (4) to eleven (11) enjoy group games and activities such as basketball, swimming and dancing. These activities have enabled them to further develop not just their physical and physiological well-being but their social skills as well.

Medical challenges are part and parcel of any childen’s shelter and Tahanan ng Pagmamahal is not exception to this. Ten (10) children were medically checked due to cough, colds and loose bowel movement. They all underwent nebulization to help ease their breathing. The toddleers were given Vitamin C and their fluids and fruits intake were increased to help them recover faster. A year-old baby was also confined and treated for a full week due to mild dehydration caused by diarrhea.

This update is for the nutritional and medical updates from January to March 2022.

• Thirty- nine (39) children from one month old to eleven (11) years old have been provided with a balance diet based on “Pinggang Pinoy.’

"Pinggang Pinoy, literally translated as Filipino Plate, is a visual representation of what a person should consume on a per meal basis. It is a plate-based food guide that features the right proportion of food that contains the right nutrients needed by the body of an average Filipino."

• Of the Thirty- nine (39) children, nine (9) babies were provided with milk and vitamins. They were given multi vitamins & Vitamin C with Zinc to boost their immune system.

• There were twenty- eight (28) two-years old children that had their annual physical check-up and majority of them have been found to have normal and healthy.

• Two (2) older children were underwent an annual physical check up as well but were recommended to go for chest x-rays under the suspicion of respiratory disease. Fortunately, the tests turned out negative.

• Eighteen (18) children were given medical treatment due to the following illnesses: colds, cough, pediatric community-acquired pneumonia (PCAP), high fever and vomiting.

• The present alert level status (Alert Level 1) on COVID-19 provided the opportunity for our three (3) children ages three (3) to six (6) years old to resume with their speech and occupational therapies. The therapies improved the way they interact with other children. They can now clearly communicate with the houseparents and staff. They have shown more confidence and independence in dressing themselves up and using the bathroom.

We are very grateful that through your help, we are able to continue the children’s therapies, get the medical treatments and medicine they require, meet their basic needs and also provide the care and protection these kids deserve.
