The Ayapel region (NorthEastern Colombia) continues to face climate-caused flooding. Families have been displaced. Crops have been lost. Thousands of families need help right now.
According to local authorities, more than 10,000 people (2.650 families) have been affected by floods in the Ayapel region. These families have lost everything they had: crops, animals, homes. Many of these families live in precarious shelters where they are at risk of hunger, desease and violence. Rains continue to affect the region so the issue will affect more families.
CorpoAyapel is a local non-profit that has supported the Ayapel community for 19 years. CorpoAyapel provides the humanitarian aid that families need in the process of evacuation but also longer term support for their social and economic wellbeing. This project will contribute to protecting families in their process of displacement due to climate reasons ensuring their human rights,
The project will support families in their process of evacuation due to floods but will also provide the necessary conditions for potential long-term permanence in a new place: water, sanitation, economic livelihood options and community building.
