Life on Boats A Fight for Survival Report March26

By Magfi | Project Leader

Project Summary

Bangladesh is one of the most climate-vulnerable nations, and in 2024, devastating flash floods submerged vast regions in the South, including Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur. This project was launched to provide a lifeline to the millions displaced. Our mission is two-fold: providing immediate lifesaving relief (food, water, and medicine) and implementing long-term rehabilitation to help survivors rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Challenge

The 2024 floods impacted over 5.13 million people, including 1.5 million children. Many families lost everything homes, livestock, and crops in a matter of hours. Damaged infrastructure and poor embankment maintenance have left these communities isolated, facing severe food insecurity, lack of clean drinking water, and the high risk of waterborne diseases.

Solution

PATHWAY mobilized a multi-phase response. We deployed local volunteer teams to distribute "Dignity Kits," dry food packages, and water purification tablets. Beyond the emergency phase, we are providing rehabilitation support, including repairing community water sources and providing tools, seeds, and microfinance support to restore income-generating activities for the most vulnerable families.

Long-Term Impact

By integrating disaster responses with sustainable recovery, this project strengthens community resilience. Repairing infrastructure and restoring livelihoods ensures that families do not remain dependent on aid but can achieve self-reliance. Our local volunteer teams are also receiving specialized training to act as first responders for future climate-related disasters.
