Flood Relief for Children and Families in SriLanka

By MUNASINGHE WIDANAGE CHANDIMA WIJERATHNA | Project Leader

Thank You to Our Supporters

HELPING CHILDREN INC extends its sincere gratitude to our nine generous donors and four dedicated fundraisers whose support has enabled us to begin responding to the needs of flood-affected children and families in Sri Lanka. Your compassion has provided hope to communities recovering from one of the country's most challenging natural disasters.

Project Progress

With the initial funds received through GlobalGiving, HELPING CHILDREN INC has continued coordinating with local partners to identify families most in need and plan the distribution of emergency relief supplies.

Our activities have included:

  • Assessing priority communities affected by the floods.
  • Identifying vulnerable families, especially those with young children, elderly members, and persons with disabilities.
  • Coordinating procurement of emergency food supplies and essential relief items.
  • Planning logistics to ensure assistance reaches communities efficiently and transparently.

These preparations have positioned us to continue delivering assistance as additional resources become available.

Continuing Needs

Although floodwaters have receded in many areas, many families continue to experience significant hardship. Homes, household belongings, and livelihoods have been lost, and many children remain in need of nutritious food, clean drinking water, clothing, school supplies, and basic household essentials.

Recovery will take many months, and vulnerable families continue to rely on humanitarian assistance while rebuilding their lives.

Looking Ahead

Our next phase of the project will focus on:

  • Expanding emergency food assistance.
  • Providing hygiene kits and clean drinking water.
  • Supporting children's return to school through educational supplies.
  • Assisting families with essential household items and recovery needs.

We will continue working closely with local partners to ensure that all donations are used effectively and reach those with the greatest need.

Thank You

Every contribution, regardless of size, brings hope to children and families working to recover from this disaster. We sincerely thank our donors, fundraisers, and the GlobalGiving community for standing with Sri Lanka during this challenging time.

Together, we can continue helping families recover with dignity and build a safer future for their children.
