Devastating flash floods affected hundreds of poor people, women, children and farmers in Parwan and Nuristan Provinces of Afghanistan recently, destroying homes, schools, and livelihoods, and killing dozens and hundreds are still missing. Teach for Afghanistan Organization (TAO) is delivering emergency food, water, shelter, and school supplies to the affected children and families. Your support can save lives devastated by this disaster.
Three days of flash floods from July 23rd to July 25th, 2026 tore through Siah Gerd and Sanjad dara in Parwan Province, and on 20th July destroyed Parun in Nuristan Province. Homes, farmlands, trees, schools and roads were broken; 23 people died and 125 were injured in Nuristan alone. 21 Teach for Afghanistan students, teachers, and alumni lost homes and belongings, and 5 partner schools were damaged. Families now lack food, clean water, shelter, and a safe place for children to learn.
Teach for Afghanistan's provincial teams are already on the ground, having assessed damage and needs in both the provinces. With this funding, TAO will deliver emergency food, safe drinking water, educational supplies, school repair materials and necessary shelter to the affected families in Parwan, plus essential relief supplies to Nuristan communities, and psychosocial support so displaced students can return to safe, functioning classrooms quickly.
Beyond emergency relief, this project protects years of educational progress. Repaired schools and psychosocial support keep children enrolled and learning after trauma, while shelter and ongoing support help families stay stable. By responding quickly and staying engaged through recovery, TAO builds local resilience and in the long term, shelter and support for the flood-affected families help keep kids in school, preventing them from dropping out and continue learning.
