Zero-Deaths Campaign Kicked Off!

By Michelle Joseph | Information & Communications Officer, A-PAD SL

Our local partners, A-PAD Sri Lanka, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), and Sirasa Gammadda kicked off the first street campaign on the 16th of May 2019. Reaching out to the three most vulnerable divisions of Kalutara Administrative District, namely Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, Walallawita, the campaign saw participation from 650 families.

Special guests from national and local authorities, along with military personnel, attended the campaign in promoting early preparedness amongst the flood/landslide-prone communities. A special feature of the program was the segment led by Sri Lanka Life Saving in demonstrating basic CPR and localized water survival techniques using plastic water bottles and school bags.

Private sector members from MAS Intimate, MAD Bodyline and Dialog Axiata were present as volunteers who engaged with the community members by providing business tips for SMEs and CBOs. They also distributed leaflets/posters on disaster preparedness along with an awareness sticker that was placed on passerby vehicles.
