In May 2024, Rio Grande do Sul faced the worst flood in its history, affecting 471 cities and leaving over 700,000 people homeless. Sadly, on June 17th, 2025, new floods hit the region again, this time affecting different areas, including Santa Cruz do Sul - where our organization is based - and other cities not impacted in 2024. Families are once again facing destruction and loss, just as they were beginning to recover.
In June 2025, one year after the historic floods, southern Brazil was hit again by heavy rains. Cities like Santa Cruz do Sul and Rio Pardo were severely affected. Rivers overflowed, families were displaced again, and basic services collapsed. Roads remain blocked, and the emotional impact is deepening. We now work to provide urgent relief and long-term recovery.
This project offers emotional support to families and children through counseling and recreational activities. It also supports local entrepreneurs with tools and training to restart. In addition, essential items such as food, hygiene kits, and mattresses will be purchased and delivered to those most in need.
By supporting emotional recovery and empowering entrepreneurs, the project helps communities become stronger and more resilient. In the long term, it fosters mental well-being, economic independence, and local leadership prepared to face future climate disasters with greater solidarity and readiness.
