REPORT TITLE:SUPPORTIVE VULNERABLE COMMUNITY

PROJECT TITLE:FLOOD DISASTER REPONSE,TAMILNADU

PROJECT SITE:DEROSE CENTRE,THOOTHUKUDI

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING: Mostly in Tamilnadu State heavy rain flood and cyclone is occurred during the months of October, November and December due to the climate changes. It is occurred more in the coastal districts than the normal districts of Tamilnadu. By this cyclone hit many lives loss and article damages are occurred than in the other districts. This is the Natural Disaster men can’t control these disasters. If we at the early warning activities we can reduce the defects to some extent. If any cyclone is coming towards our area we can know the same through Radio, Television and Daily Newspapers. Then forewarning Announcement is made to the public people through the Govt. officials it is also advised to the people in the disaster centered zone to move to the protected places. With the help of police Dept. staff some times people are helped to move to the protected places. Safe and clean places are identified and the victims are arranged to an accommodated there. Those who vacated their houses are found with out any accommodation. That is why they are provided with mat, Bed sheets etc In order to keep up the health hygiene. Toilet facilities are made. For bathing and drinking clean and purified water is supplied to people in the disaster affected areas. As a multitude of people are found in a small location, there would be the possibilities for the spreading of contagious disasters. That is why a doctors Team is temporarily formed. By them medicines and necessary tablets are distributed.  When emergency treatment is needed to somebody for him or her ambulance facility is arranged. Being considered the protection of the community police constables have been appointed for supervision. Higher police officials inspect them. The State and Central Govts. will take steps after the disaster hit for the recovery of the people from their defects to the normal condition arrangements are made.

FIRST AID TRAINING: When a person is travelling on road or working he happens to meet accident. During that occasion provision of First Aid to the victim who meet the accident is necessary. During such occasions nobody is there to provide First Aid. In other words most of the people do not know about the First Aid. In earlier days nobody came forward to help any person who met accident on road or anywhere else. They hesitated to help the victim who met the accident. They thought that they had to meet any problem. That is why we decided to create First Aid training Awareness among the community here. Hence we provided the Awareness of protecting some body who had met accident and fallen down .All of a sudden somebody gets fainted and falls down. What shall we do in this situation?  At first we must him to the well ventilated area, so that he can breath easily with out any hindrance and we must arrange him / her comfortably. Also we must check his / her breathing condition. If the breathing is not found in a uniform manner, we may keep his head upon a pillow in straight manner. If the pillow is not found there we can help him to lay his head upon somebody’s lap. Following this we must cover our mouth with a clean and fine cloth and blow air into his mouth from our mouth. When our breathing air combines with his breathing air he would turn to the normal breathing condition. If he had any head injury, we must check the same and clean the wound with a fine and clean wet cloth. After this we must keep a 3 or 4 folded fine wet cloths up on the injury and make a tight bandage surrounding the head injury portion. If we do so the bleeding from the victims head will be stopped. If same body has fracture up on his hand we can help him by keeping 2 flat sticks, of which one up on the top portion and another one up on the lower portion and make a tight bandage surrounding the fracture using a clean and fine cloth. Then with a long strip cloth joining the neck and hand make a knot and it would be like a cradle. If some body gets injured on leg a bandage shall be made up on his leg, likewise we make bandage for hand. Then he may be allowed to leg at a well aerated place. When somebody gets injured and is found in the unconscious condition we must check his pulse by checking with our fingers just below the left hand thumb at wrist. If the pulse beat is not found clearly, we can check the pulse beat at the neck portion of the victim or at the top of the head. Still if the pulse beat is not recognized we can make the victim to sit straight or we can make him lay up on a bed sheet and we can check his / her heart beat by keeping our palm upon the left side of the chest and apply pressure in that area. If we do, the beat would reach the normal condition. If we do so to any person who met the disaster. We can protect him / her by our First Aid help. If any person has much bleeding from his / her injury we must press tightly with both our hands at the bleeding spot. If we do so we can protect that person from the loss of blood. If we do not do so, the particular person would reach the fatal condition. Being not given the change for that, we must protect many lives by doing the First Aid Help in time

MOCK DRILL TRAINING: After doing this First Aid Treatment to the disaster affected and injured person we shall carry that person to the hospital. Except 2 persons to help, if no body is there those 2 persons join together their hands can make a chair like form and make the sick person to sit up on our hands and make him to lean up on our other 2 hands and carry him to the ambulance or to the hospital. If the injured person is in the conscious condition we can keep his feet up on our feet and gently by keeping his / her hands up on our shoulder we can walk with him, It would be much helpful to the injured disaster affected person. Otherwise we can make a stretcher like form with the help of a saree or dhoti or bed sheet like any long cloth. We must role on some length longitudinally. If we do so the injured person would feel comfortable in this manner we provided participants many First Aid Training programme. In the earlier, year’s women in this area could not get such training programmes. Therefore most of the women in this area knew about the First Aid Help to be done to the victims. They all said that this training was much beneficial to everybody and they conveyed their heart felt thanks to the Global Giving aided Project Staff Team.
