PROJECT TITLE:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA
PROJECT SITE :DEROSE CENTRE,THOOTHUKUDI
LIVELIHOOD INITIATIVE MICRO & MACRO ALGAL CULTURE:GlobalGiving aided Chevalier Roche Society organized Capacity building training on Livelihood for the victims of Flood Disaster at Thoothukudi Coastal district. In this livelihood training, Micro algal culture and Macro algal culture (Sea weed) dealt on detail. Central Manner Fisheries Research institute (CMFRI) Retd. Principal Scientist inaugurate the Master’s training. He delivered the various uses of sea weeds. He has already published “Sea weed Research Journal” in this vast experience he delivered various valve added initiatives from indigenous sea weed and also he clearly explained not to select Exotic Sea weed Kappophycus. This exotic sea weed can deplete coral reefs growth as the Coral islands.Then scientist from Krishna moorthy Institute of algae, Chennai delivered the lecture on micro algal culture. Mainly he focused on ‘’Spirulina algal Culture’’ and also he clearly explained Blue green algae (BGA) and its uses. Then Asst. Professor from Dept. of Marine Sciences, VOC College Clearly explained various value added products mainly “Soft drinks” and flestry loss item from Ulva Lactuca and also Head of Prof. from Dept. of Botany, VOC College also explained in details various Bio active principles of sea need scientist. From Aqua culture Foundation of India (AFI) clearly explained depressant culture methods, of sea weed in open sea. 1. Raft culture and Its uses 2. Mono line culture and its uses. He should video graphical, slides thro LCD projector to the beneficiaries. Finally Special Guest Professor, from Faculty of Marine Science, Annamalai University clearly explained ‘’ Sudden out burst of Phyto plankton’’ and called “Red Tide” it causes major problems.
MULTIPLICATION OF ALGAL BLOOM: In sea water and fresh water resources all of a Sudden some algae grow fast and it changes the colour of the water into green, red, pale brown etc. Cause for this incident is the specific kind of algal blooms and the pigments being found in them. In the water resources generally in one litre of water 100 to 1000 micro organism plant lives are found. Sometimes million numbers of Cells are found in one litre quantity of water. This is called as multiplication blooms.
HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS(BIOLOGICAL DISASTER): Due to the harmful algal blooms multiplication pollution of water sources, Bio – gas reduction increase of Carbon – di- oxide, fishes taking these materials, Prawns, Snails, Turtles and Mammals such as dolphins are affected. For example: Alexandrium, Nactiluca, Nitcia, Micro cystis, Drychodasmillm, Rhizosolinia and some other geneus. As these grow in multitude these are occurred in green, red and yellow colours. At a single place as many of the plant micro organisms are found, they are without carbon dioxide and as these micro organisms meet death, they emit some harmful toxins
REASON FOR THE MULTIPLICATION OF HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOM: Due to the Changes being made by men atmospherically temperature changes in various areas of the world. Following that moving and fast flowing of Sea Water from the top to bottom and from bottom to the top revolving of water is made and it moves from the hot region to Cold region, by the rain fall being formed by the Changes in the climate and abundance of flood being formed in rivers Micro organisms of plants increase in number. All these incidents happen in a short period of time. Sea weeds are of two kinds They are 1) TOXIC and 2) INTOXIC According to the measure of Nitrate and Phosphate contents in Sea Water the growth of the sea weeds are occurred. By the wastes from agriculture, Factories, houses and Port Trust wastes the measure of this nutritions increase. As a result of this number of micro plants in the sea increase
ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN NOW A DAYS: When Harmful Algal Blooms are formed in sea, Colour of the Sea Water Changes. We shall not eat the sea foods being found in this location. A floating plant named microsis which are found in fresh water ponds, pools etc, people should not take bath and shall not take bath in these water sources and shall not drink the water of these water sources. Also we must check and shall not allow the animals also to drink .If the change in the colour of Sea water is found that change is occurred because of the Micro plants being found in Green, Red and yellow colours we must inform this to the Marine Biology Macro Research centre through Global Giving aided Project Staff Team.
