REPORT TITLE:RE-BUILDING COMMUNITY THRO CAPACITY BUILDING

PROJECT TITLE:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT CHENNAI,INDIA.

PROJECT UNDER:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA.

PROJECT SITE: DHOBI CORNER, SAIDAPET, CHENNAI

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING: At Chennai Dhobi corner Saidapet area is the mostly affected area during the rain flood times. At first Vulnerable community did not have any idea and precaution methods and they did not know the fore warning announcements and their their benefits. That is why it is necessary for them to arise the knowledge of awareness in their minds. Most of the people here have many questions in their minds. That is why we felt it would be minds. That is why we felt it would be to develop them to a better standard of lives and develop them further to live according to the climate changes and also we taught them to be with the self confidence. We teach the people in Dhobi cornet, Saidapet area the following points:

-         What is meant by the Natural Disaster?

-         What will be the result of the disaster?

-         How the disaster will occur?

-         What will be the result of the disaster?

-         How shall we know the disaster in ahead of time?

-         How will be the defects of the disaster?

-         How shall we protect ourselves from the disaster?

-         What will be the benefit of this protection?

-         How shall we know the coming of Natural disaster in ahead of time?

-         What will be the future result of disaster?

These questions were analyzed and disused among the trainees and practical demonstrations were also performed

FIRST AID TRAINING:Necessity of the First Aid and need of the same were taught to the trainees of the participated in the programme. It was taught about the varieties of the First Aid in varies occasions. With the practical demonstrations. If a person has a fracture at his hand how shall we handle him? It was taught clearly to the trainees in Dhobi corner, Saidapet area. The person who has the fracture at his hand, we must take 2 scales and they must be kept on 60 to the sides of the fracture and bandage shall be made surrounding the foot scales or flat stick. The bandage cloth must be clean and lengthy so as to cover the fracture and that is why the hand injured person would feel less pain. If somebody has any fracture upon his leg and he is unable to walk he can be also helped by 2 persons on both the sides of the fractured person helpers must stand beside the person above mentioned and keep each foot of him upon the helpers foot. That is why the injured person would feel better about his pain. Both the helpers can encourage the leg injured person to walk gently. Now the injured person can walk. He can be taken easily to the ambulance or any other vehicle which is ready for him.If anybody is affected severely during the disaster and found in the unconscious condition, at first we must check his pulse upon the wrist. If we are unable to recognize the same we can keep our fingers upon his temple of the fore head. This is an another method to check the pulse of the person who is in the unconscious condition. Also we can check the heart beat of the disaster affected person by keeping fingers upon the left side of the chest. If it is also failed we can provide him the artificial breathing by keeping our mouth upon his mouth and exhale our breathing in to his mouth when we do this we must be careful to avoid infection. We mouth of the unconscious person. Then through that cloth we can exhale in to his mouth. It would be safety for both of the person’s (i.e) disaster affected and First Aid volunteer. If this is also failed we can put our palm upon the leg side of the chest and blow gently with another hand. It would be much helpful for the person. Who is in unconscious condition and it would make the heart to work again properly and gradually.

MOCK DRILL TRAINING PROGRAMME:If an aged person met an accident and got injured, how shall we handle him and carry to the ambulance or to the nearby hospital provision of first aid to the affected person is necessary. At the same we must make a phone call to phone No.108 to have the ambulance help for the disaster affected person. If the person is very weak and unable to walk we can carry with the help of a locally available material (Bed sheet or a saree or dhoty) by making it as a stretcher likes from and any 2 persons can easily carry him.
