REPORT TITLE:CONTRIBUTE TO LONG TERM PERSPECTIVES IN CHENNAI

PROJECT TITLE:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT CHENNAI,INDIA

PROJECT UNDER:FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA

TARGET SITES: SANTHOSH NAGAR & TONDAIRPET,CHENNAI 

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING:Santhosh Nagar is situated at Egmore area in Chennai Corporation. In this area a self Help Group is serving with the president ship of SHG Leader, with her guidance through Global Giving Aided Chevaliar Roche Society Flood Disaster Management   Training Programme was begun at Santhosh Nagar area,Chennai located at Egmore in Chennai during the flood time. This area was affected much during the rain fall in the year 2016 by the flood. This year also Disaster Management Training Programme was held for the people at Santhosh Nagar.Due to the heavy rainfall occurred during the year 2015 Chennai city was completely collapsed.  In this situation our Global Giving Aided staff team visited   the affected areas of Santhosh Nagar and informed the affected people and taught. In this programme it was taught clearly how should we protect women, aged people, Children and Alternative skilled. 

DISASTER MOCKDRILL PROGRAMME:How shall work with the capacity building during the time of disaster? It was explained in detail. It was also taught how we should bring 108 Ambulance or Fire Service Van or Recovery groups to the disaster affected area. When we make some arrangements in the disaster affected area, we must collect all the particulars from the disaster affected area such as the name of the village, name of the block the location (Street name, Door Numbers, Landmark etc) and near by areas such as school, factory or hospital, Cinema Theatre etc should be mention during the making of our phone call for Helping the disaster affected victims. It was also explained in detail. In addition to this how should we protect the disaster affected victims? If was also explained detail to the participants of the disaster mock drill programme.If a person is found in unconscious condition, how shall we work? What ever the cloth we have with us like dhoty or saree or bedsheet we can make it like a stretcher form. Up on that unconscious person can be laid and two persons can help this affected person by holding the edges of the cloth on both ends. Before we make a phone call to phone call for No.108 for the Ambulance we can do some First Aid Helps to the victim we can check  the pulse of the victim by keeping our fingers up on the wrist of the victim. If it is not recognized we can check the pulse up on temples of the forehead. If it also does not work we can provide him the artificial respiration. When a person gets injured on his leg or hand two persons can help him to carry by joining their hands and make a chair like form and easily carry the person to the ambulance or a near by hospital. If anybody gets injured on legs he can be helped by ones feet under his feet, up hold his weight and we can help him to walk. It was also taught during the Mock Trill Programme.

 FIRST AID TRAINING:During the times of disaster sometimes women get hurt and injured on hands or legs. In this situation we can use one of the pure cloths saree or dhoty or shall or bed sheet etc. One of the above said cloths can be taken. At one edge it must be torn off. Then we can make a bandage by butting 4 or 6 folded small cloths up on the injury and up on than a strip of long narrow cloth can be covered tightly and make a bandage.If anybody gets injured up on head hemorrhage is occurred much, we shall not apply any powder like wise, village people do. The injury shall be cleaned and washed with pure water. Then the bandage must be made to cover the injury surrounding the head.

LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AT TONDAIRPET,CHENNAI:In order to left up the life style of the people who were affected with rain flood during the year 2015, it was taught about the manufacture of Blue drops to the beneficiaries.In Tondiarpet constituency of Chennai Corporation Flood Disaster Management and Awareness Training Programme, defects found during the time of disaster and recovery of the affected people and classes with practical demonstration were convened.Numerous loss of lives were found during the accidents occurred by the flood and tremor. Following that people did not know how to recover the people and bring out them. In order to avoid this we visited there met the people and provided the Training. During the disaster how shall we recover and protect the people who got injured.Providing the First Aid Treatment and carrying him to the hospital. Such Trainings were offered to the affected community in this area.If a person got injured on head and having the bleeding at first a clean folded cloth must be taken and upon the head injury and with a long strip of cloth head must be tied tightly. If a person got injured on hand or leg long sticks shall be kept surrounding the fractured bone and tied tightly surrounding those sticks. With the help of a clean cloth. Also we provided the training how should we carry the injured victims to the hospital. After providing this training we asked them to repeat the training as a practical demonstration. They also performed the First Aid Training as they were taught. After this training they said they had no any entrepreneurship and asked as to teach them about the Entrepreneurship and to provide them the necessary trainings for them. We bought shills, corals, pearls and mirror like some articles and began the training with them. In that training 20 to 30 beneficiaries participated.

LIVELIHOOD PERSPECTIVES:ORNAMENTAL SHELL CRAFT:We taught them about manufacturing ornaments from those shells, Corals, Pearls, and Mirrors etc. They participated in this training programme with great zeal and much interest. We asked them to repeat what we had done before them. They were astonished and told us that they were taught trained so far with such Training Programmes and they felt those were much helpful to develop their skill and life style. Also they said, “we as women, for us it is a way to develop in our lives. Being used this opportunity we will develop in our lives.
