REPORT TITLE: SUPPORT CHENNAI’S DISASTER VICTIMS
PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU, S.INDIA
Chennai and Kanchipuram districts were affected much by the flood disaster one of the most vulnerable community is living at Kothamedu. During the occurrence of the rain flood disaster their multi storied flats were severely damaged. Soon they were unable to get their food materials and they had no medical facilities. In that manner they suffered much. That is why it was necessary to provide Disaster Management Training in order to face the damage and defects of the disaster and to protect themselves from the disaster and doing an entrepreneurship for their livelihood and the livelihood of their families. Also we explained the methods of approach to fill their needs by various methods for their alternative / additional income resource. Earlier arrangement to be made before the occurrence of the disaster was also explained.
FIRST AID & MOCK DRILL TRAINING:
During the occurrence of Flood Disaster the victims themselves do the first aid for themselves. It was explained with the practical demonstration. It was explained how to bring an aged man from a disaster affected area. If a small child got injured how should we heal and protect the same child victim from the disaster defects. How should we provide the First Aid Treatment to the disaster affected vulnerable community. If a victim has a severe injury and bleeding in what manner they shall be treated by some techniques without causing any further increase of pain to them. If a person is in unconscious condition at first we must check his pulse. If we are unable to feel the pulse and unable to find the pulse rate we can hear the heart beat by keeping our ear upon the left side of his chest, also we can check the beat of the nerves on the sides of the fore head by keeping our fingers there. If that person is found unconscious we can keep our mouth upon his mouth and blow air into his mouth. In order to avoid the contagious diseases during that occasion, we must keep a clean cloth upon the mouth of the unconscious person and do the artificial respiration. It would be safety and we can protect the affected person without any defects. It was taught with the practical demonstration with the necessary explanation First Aid Training was provided in this manner to the community in the disaster affected area.
LIVELIHOOD TRAINING
Victims of the vulnerable community in this area Kothamedu were offered Livelihood Training in order to develop further their Life Style and to develop their skills according to the interest of their entrepreneurship and to begin their own entrepreneurship with the subsidy from the Govt. of Tamilnadu. To the vulnerable community gathered in this area Home need products such as washing oil, shop oil utensils cleaning powder & Liquid Blue preparation was taught step by step. Practical demonstration was also performed in front of them with necessary explanation what are the necessary product materials? How shall we market this manufactured product in order to get enough profit? What type of components was used in the manufacture of all home need products. At what cost can it be sold? Such questions were rises and answered clearly with the various marketing strategies thro field oriented demonstration.
In addition to these ornamental shell craft, molluscan shells, corals, garlands were collected and it was explained how were they formed as decorative materials and ornaments? How were the corals used in manufacturing garlands? From the coastal materials how are these products manufactured? It was explained clearly to the vulnerable community gathered there during this Livelihood Training Programme. Practical demonstration was also performed in the presence o this vulnerable community with the necessary explanation. Participants of this Livelihood Training programme were very glad about this opportunity for them and they conveyed their hearty wishes and much thankfulness to the organization “Global Giving & Chevalier Roche Society for this valuable Livelihood Training Programme for them.
