REPORT TITLE: TRAINING FOR ELIMINATION OF THREATS
PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMIL NADU, S. INDIA
PROJECT GROUP: SLUM DWELLERS, MANJAKKUZHI THOPPU COLONY – CUDDALORE DISTRICT
Community Based Disaster Management Awareness Training Programme was held at Manjakkuzhi Thoppu Colony village, Parankipettai Panchayat Union. President, Panchayat Level SHG Federation presided over this programme in the presence of president, Women Self Help Women Group. Project Manager Global Giving Chevalier Roche Society participated in this programme and offered the training.
DURING THE TRAINING FOLLOWING INFORMATION WERE OFFERED:
It was explained in detail. What is disaster? What are the types of disaster? Natural Disaster, Artificial Disaster and their defects were explained in detail. As the Dhalith vulnerable community and many huts are found in this area, alternatively abled persons, aged vulnerable community, lepers, Women and children living in more numbers areas must be identified and during the times of disaster priority shall be given to them. It was emphasized clearly. Participants of this Training Programme were asked to find the protected places for the accommodation of disaster affected places. Availability of Drinking Water, Health Condition Electricity facilities must be also checked in the places above mentioned. The low lying areas shall be identified and the community living there should be moved to the protected places and they must be carried in a safe manner. It was also asked to find the evacuation routes to go the protected places. They were also asked to have the recovery articles, Transportation facilities and sand bags to avoid the water flooding during the time of disaster and keep them all in the ready condition. Trainees of this programme were asked to form Disaster Management Groups in village level and to firm also recovery teams and First Aid teams. They were asked to evaluate formerly found disasters in the villages. They were asked and emphasized to collect Emergency Phone Nos. Such as of Police Station, Fire Service & Recovery Center, Town Protection Force, Medical Shops, Hospitals, Revenue Dep. Office and local Disaster Management Groups etc. Three stages of Disasters. 1. Before the Disaster 2. During the Disaster 3. After the Disaster. Were explained and the situation at the surrounding places must be found and noted clearly. In what manner shall volunteers work? It was also explained in detail. It was also explained in what manner we shall develop the enduring capacity of the disaster affected vulnerable community. Actions to be taken to avoid the dangers and to reduce the losses were explained in detail. Being reduced the disasters and reduce the defects of the disasters were explained in detail. Trainees were also asked to prepare the vulnerable community to face the disaster and to protect the whole village. It was explained also how we should work to do the Recovery works and revival works by co-operating with the Govt. Dept.
FIRST AID TRAINING:
It was explained in detail about the general rules of the First Aid and their principles. Instruments to be followed during the First Aid activities. It was demonstrated practically how to provide the artificial respiration to the persons who are in unconscious condition. Necessary explanation was also given. Precautions to be followed during the artificial respiration were also explained in detail. In order to increase the speed of the heart beat, how to given the outward pressure by palm. It was explained with practical demonstration. It was also explained in what manner we should given the outward pressure by our palm to the heart of the disaster affected person. It was explained how we should do this activity to children and to the adults. It was also demonstrated practically and described in detail about controlling and arresting the bleeding and how should we make the bandage for injured persons. It was explained what type of the First Aid Activities shall be done for the persons who met minor injuries and bitten by poisonous infects.
SEARCH & RECOVERY:
It was explained how we should seek the lost persons during the disaster times. As a single person, how shall we recover and carry the affected persons. It was demonstrated practically with the necessary explanation. If there are two persons in the Disaster affected place, how they should be recovered and carried. It was practically demonstrated with a detailed explanation. It was demonstrated practically how we could carry the disaster affected persons with the help of available articles. Fire quenching methods with the help of blanket or carpet, gunny bag etc. Finally President, Self Help Group Federation delivered the vote of thanks and the programme was closed in a nice manner.
