REPORT TITLE: PROMOTION OF CLIMATE MASTERS TRAINERS
PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMIL NADU, S. INDIA
TARGET VENUE: BISHOP CALDWELL COLLEGE – THOOTHUKUDI
TARGET GROUPS: COLLEGE STUDENTS, THOOTHUKUDI
Disaster Management Awareness lectureship programme was held for NSS Boys & Girls of Bishop Caldwell College, Maravanmadam, Thoothukudi. Principal presided over this Disaster Management Awareness lectureship programme in the presence of Professor, NSS Officer, Bishop Caldwell College, Thoothukudi. Project Manager Chevalier Roche society provided the Training on Disaster & Risk Management. During this Training Programme following information were given to the students.
Formation of Disaster, Types of Disaster (Natural & Artificial). If it is occurred to what extent it has made the loss of lives and damages of articles. After disaster how many vulnerable community met the unbearable bad condition and losses? It must be known clearly and necessary steps shall be taken immediately. It was explained in detail. Artificially formed Disaster shall be supervised continually, fore warnings to be made properly to make the vulnerable community be alert, creating awareness among them continuous training programmes and planning shall be made properly. By these activities we can gradually reduce disasters can’t be blocked or controlled. At the same time we can reduce the measure of the defects by doing necessary activities and fore warnings and protection methods. At first in order to reduce the defects made by disasters, at first we must make the arrangements to present and lesson the disaster defects and prepare the vulnerable community for the same. Early warning being given by the Government, NGOs and Medias to be listened clearly and was explained clearly. Three stages of Disasters. Before the Disaster, During the Disaster and After the Disaster what types of works to be done by the community and volunteers were explained in detail.
ARRANGEMENT TO BE MADE BEFORE THE DISASTER:
Following Information was provided during the Training Programme. Preparedness, Training the low lying areas, Supervising the defected vulnerable community, Supervising the easily affected areas, Training the Evacuation routes, Knowing about the protected places, Deepening the ponds and tanks. Strengthening of their banks, To avoid the over following of water in canals and streams Bunds must be streams, Water Resource must be protected in order to avoid doughtiness during the summer, Constructing the building which are not easily demolished, Planting the saplings of plants such as Casuarinas in coastal areas and maintain the same, Many sand bags must be in ready condition to block the floods and its defects, Creating the continuous awareness about the disaster to the community, Making the evaluation about the earlier disasters, Forming the different types of groups and provision of continuous Training to the groups, Collection of Emergency Phone Numbers.
FOLLOWING INFORMATION WERE GIVEN REGARDING THE ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE DURING THE DISASTER:
Delivery of Early warning and information, Motivating the search and Recovery works, Provision of First Aid and Medical Helps immediately to the disaster affected vulnerable community, Arrangement of Food & Accommodation, Provision of comfort & counseling.
POST DISASTER ARRANGEMENT TO BE MADE FOLLOWING INFORMATION’S WERE OFFERED REGARDING THAT:
Motivation of Rehabilitation works, Formation of permanent domiciles, Provision of permanent Road, Electricity and Drinking Water facilities, Provision of Alternative Entrepreneurship opportunities, Creation of permanent and protected environment, Arrangement to provide continuous counseling and Training programmes by making Disaster Management Plan.
FIRST AID SEARCH & RECOVERY TRAINING
Being understood the condition of the disaster victims and provision of First Aid Treatment according to their convenience. Priority to be given according to the defects and injury the victims had. It was asked to provide immediately the Artificial Respiration if the person feels suffocated and in the unconscious condition. It was advised to provide outward pressure to the Heart in addition to the artificial respiration. It was offered along with the practical demonstration. The trainees were asked to check and monitor continually the heart beat and Body colour of the disaster affected person. If the hemorrhage is excessive to the disaster affected person a proper bandage must be made to stop the bleeding immediately. It was convened with the practical demonstration with the necessary explanation. Practical demonstration along with the explanation was provided to the trainees to make the bandages for the bone fractured victims of the disaster. It was explained about seeking, finding and recovering the weak vulnerable community during times of disaster among the disaster affected person. It was also explained with the practical demonstration about how should we recover the people and animals drowned in water and involved in fire accidents. Finally this programme was accomplished successfully after Project co-ordinator Chevalier Roche Society & Global Giving delivered the vote of thanks.
