CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING
REPORT TITLE:CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING ON FIRST AID
PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU,S.INDIA.
PROJECT SITE:HOLY CROSS HOME SCIENCE COLLEGE,THOOTHUKUDI
PROJECT GROUP:GIRLS COLLEGE STUDENTS
Disaster Management Awareness Training Lectureship Programme was held at the Meeting Hall, Holy Gross Home Science Women College National Service Scheme Project Officer presided over this programme in the presence of Professor,Nutrition Dept. and Prof,English Dept. In this programme Project Manager Global Giving aided Chevalier Roche Society project, Co-ordinator, Chevalier Roche Society participated and provided the Training for the students in the Holy Gross Home Science Women College, Thoothukudi. During this Training Programme following explanations were given in detail.
- Types of disasters and various defects made by them were explained in detail.
- Particularly it was explained how the Flood Disaster are formed. Regarding the damages of lives and materials being caused by that was explained
- It was also explained through video show the causes for the formation of floods
- Causes for the most of the floods, such as continuous rainfall, damage of dams. Big tanks and lakes were explained in detail.
- By the encroachments water path routes and due to the non-maintenance of canals, streams the flood water enters in to the domestic areas cause damages of lives and materials it was explained with the video shows and past incidents.
- Village, location of the village, its low lying areas and slum areas must be in continuous supervision. It was explained clearly to the students participated in the programme
- It was explained about what type of activities students must involve in order to reduce the defects of the flood Disaster
- Very week aged people are alternative abled women, children and lepers and they must be given special importance and they shall be recovered without delay. It was emphasized clearly.
- When the seasonal rain starts bid tanks, lakes, dams and streams must be supervised continually and they must be kept in protected condition without any damage. In order to do so gunny bags must be ready in member to do the prevention activities.
- Trainees were asked to plant the trees at the banks of the water resources in order to avoid soil erosion.
- They were also informed to form Village Level Disaster Management Groups and the ways of the groups to be conducted and who would be the members in those groups.
- Identification of safety places and the evacuation routes for the protected places should be identified and they must be announced to the whole community in the local places of the disaster.
- Emergency phone numbers for Fire service & Recovery Dept., Police station, Hospitals, Town Protection force, Revenue Dept. Office, Block Development Office, Local Disaster Management Groups, NGOs and such places etc.
- Being not believed the Rumors, the community and social workers must carefully listen to the announcement being delivered by the Govt., NGOs, local disaster management Groups and Medias etc and work according to the instructions being given by them. Then it would be helpful to solve the problems.
- Also these Girl students were asked to form College Level Disaster Management Project and to form Disaster Management Groups within the college itself and to serve.
- It was also experience in detail about the participation of National Service Scheme Students and the importance of their participation.
- It was described in detail about the avoidance of contagious diseases spreading and the related activities.
FIRST AID TRAINING:
- It was demonstrated practically with the explanation how shout the First Aid Service to be provided and in what manner the First Aid should provided and in what manner they should be taken to the hospital or nearby clinic.
- How shall we provide Artificial respiration to the persons who are in unconscious condition? It was demonstrated practically with the necessary explanation.
- How should be control the hemorrhage to the person who met the major injury and in what manner the bandage shall be made to him with the practical demos.
- How shall we take bandage to the bone fractured person according to the defect of the injury? The participated students keenly looked at the performance conducted.
- If somebody is immersed in water and feels suffocated when he / she breathes, in what manner the First Aid shall be provided.
- With the practical demonstration it was explanation in what manner the First Aid should be provided for those who were bitten by snake or poisonous insect.
- Students were emphasized to make arrangements for the First Aid according to the level of the defects, and the place of incident.
- Also it was emphasized to make arrangements for the Ambulance. Before beginning the First Aid Help. Information shall be given properly and quickly to the Ambulance centre for the early arrival of the Ambulance without any delay
- In addition to this General Rules and principals of the First Aid were announced along with the video show and necessary explanation.
MOCK DRILL TRAINING PROGRAMME:
- A Rehearsal Programme was convened in what manner we could recover the victims being entangled in the flood. It was demonstrated practically.
- We must quench the fire on the body of the fire accident victims by covering his / her body with woolen sheet, blanket, gunny bag and articles such as not inflammable easily. Such recovery process was explained through practical demonstration in this Mock Drill Training Programme.
- It was also practically demonstrated in what manner we should take action for the recovery of victims who are entangled in the disasters of storm, cyclone etc in this Training Programme.
- If the symptoms are found for any tremors in our local areas what type of precaution activities shall be taken? Such Mock Drill Training was also provided to the Trainees along with the practical demonstration.
- If any accident happened, how should we recover the victim of the accident and take him / her to the hospital and how we should carry him to the ambulance in a safe manner.
- How shall the crackers be burn during the festival times without causing any hurt or damage to nearby places and persons? Such rehearsal was also conducted during this Mock Drill Training Programme.
- Due to the heavy pressure in a huge crowd same may die in some occasions. How shall we avoid this problem? Such Mock Drill was also performed and taught with the practical demonstration.
