REPORT TITLE: DISASTER INTERVENTION TO COLLEGE STUDENTS

PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU, S. INDIA

  Disaster and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Training one day Intervention Training Programme was held at Thoothukudi College. Principal, College presided over this programme in the presence of officers, National Service Scheme (NSS), Thoothukudi college GlobalGiving Aided Project Manager, Chevalier Roche Society delivered in this programme and offered the Training. During this Training Lectureship programme he mentioned the following points to the Boy & Girl Students gathered there.

TRAINING PROGRAMME REGARDING REDUCTION OF LOSES BEING OCCURRED DURING THE DISASTER:

Since the creation of the world human race has met so many disasters in various situations at various places. These incidents are a great challenge to the humanity and are causing great destruction in this world. It is continually happening. It was described in detail with the display of video programme. Generally disasters are of two kinds 1. Natural Disaster 2. Artificial Disaster. Of which in Natural Disaster there are many types such as Disasters in land, Hydrological disasters, Atmospherical disasters, and Biological disasters were explained in detail through video show. Disasters being stimulated by human society are Environmental pollution, Industrial Disasters were described elaborately. What is meant by carbon credit, Power decreased condition? What are the reasons for the power decreased condition being found among the Indian people? These were explained in detail. It was also taught which the disaster affected areas are and who are affected by the disasters.It was also explained about some disasters occurrence in some places of the states. It was described with the help of Indian Map and Video show.Disaster occurred in the past times in Tamil Nadu and other states of India loss of lives due to the disaster and damages of articles were explained in detail with the help of still photographs. Important factors of the Disaster Management such as situation before the disaster, situation during the disaster and situation after the disaster were explained in detail. Important purpose of the Disaster Management is the Reduction of Lives Loss, Reduction of Material damages, Reduction of distress to the human community and speed up to Recovery works. These were explained in detail and clearly. Prearrangement before the occurrence of Disaster are preparedness, identification of low lying areas, monitoring the disaster affected people, discovery of evacuation routes, finding out the protected places collecting emergency phone numbers. These were explained in detail to the boy & girl students. Creation of Continuous Awareness among the community to face the disasters formation of various Disaster Management Groups was explained. Necessary explanation was given in what manner shall those groups be formed? How shall be their activities? These were described in detail. It was explained in detail. How shall the Disaster Management Project Plan be prepared and what shall be included in that plan. Activities to be performed during the Disaster such as fore warning, sharing of the communication, search and Recovery Services, First Aid and Medical Services, Drinking Water facilities, Public Health, Accommodation and Food supply were explained in detail. It was also described in what manner the arrangement shall be made. After the disaster occurrence important arrangement to be made are Restitution, Permanent accommodations, Renovation and Reconstruction of Road, Electricity and Drinking Water supplies, Making of Alternative Livelihood opportunities etc. were discussed and described through film show. It was also explained what type of Actions to be taken for the Restitution of the local community and turning to the normal condition after the occurrence of disaster.  

 FIRST AID AND RECOVERY TRAINING:

          After the Lunch Break, First Aid and Recovery Awareness Training Programme was convened. During that occasion following details were offered along with the practical demonstration through video show. General Guidelines of First Aid and purpose of the First Aid were explained elaborately. If there are many persons who know the FIRST AID, it would be very much helpful to protect many lives during the accidents and disaster times. Regarding this a detailed explanation was given. If anybody feels suffocated during the accident or disaster times, and he becomes unconscious in what manner Artificial respiration can be made? It was explanation through the video cinema programme. For minor and major injures in what manner bandage to be made upon the injures. In what manner bandages shall be made in order to control the bleeding and call on the Ambulance after making the bandage to the injured person. All these were explained in detail. Practical demonstration was done with the necessary explanation for making the bandage to the bone fractured victims. How shall we treat the head injured persons? In what manner the bandage shall be made to them? Practical demonstration was performed along with the oral explanation to the students. In what manner First Aid Help shall be provided to the injured victims? How they shall be recovered from the fire? Practical Demonstration was performed before the students for their understanding. Practical Demonstration was performed to show how a single person can be helpful to carry the disaster affected person. In addition to this, if there are two persons available in the disaster affected area how can they carry the disaster affected persons? The Practical Demonstration was performed before the boy & girl students of the college. It was practically demonstrated how can we carry the major disaster affected persons and provided them the necessary First Aid Help and carry them to the 108 Ambulance. It was also taught to the students along with the practical demonstration to carry the severely bone fractured people in cradle method and chair method.

Boy & Girl students offered their experience sharing and finally Co-ordinator, Chevalier Roche Society delivered the vote of thanks and this Training &Lectureship Programme was accomplished successfully.
