DISASTER TRAININGS FOR VILLAGE WOMEN IN CUDDALORE

REPORT TITLE: DISASTER TRAININGS FOR VILLAGE WOMEN IN CUDDALORE

PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU, SI.INDIA

PROJECT SITES: PINNALUR PANCHAYAT, MELBHUVANAGIRI UNION & PERIYAKUMATTI PANCHAYAT, PARANGIPETTAI UNION, CUDDALORE DISTRICT  

 At Pinnalur Panchayat, Mel Bhuvanagiri Panchayat Union to the community there women leader presided over this function in the presence of President, Panchayat Union Level Women Self Help Group Federation. Global Giving Project Manager of Chevalier Roche Society participated and provided the training on Disaster Management. Below mentioned points were taught to trainees participated in the programme.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING:

As the rainy season is going to begin all people in the village were asked not to have any stagnant or still water with in the village.  All canals including water canals including the waste water canal it was asked to arrange for the free flow of water in the villages without any hindrance. All water path Routes shall be overseen and all types of encroachments shall removed. It was emphasized the necessity of forming a recovery group in village level. With the membership of people who know the swimming, drivers and masons that group should be formed. It was suggested to form the First Aid Groups by utilized school, college Boys & Girls students. It was also asked to identify and find the alternative skilled, Aged, conceived women, ladies, children and lepers and domestic locations. It was also told the participants to identify the numerous huts located areas.  It was too said to find the protected places of people, living, evacuation routes from the disaster affected area and all available facilities.  It was also suggested to strengthen the banks of ponds, lakes, ground level wells tanks etc. so that the water will not be over flown. It was asked to make necessary arrangements for the accommodation of affected people, medicines, food supply and protected drinking water supply. Participants of the Training were informed to arrange the public health facilities, safety measures to avoid the spreading of contagious diseases etc.

FIRST AID AND RECOVERY TRAINING: Among the disaster affected people there would some people have the much bleeding from their injures. It was taught in what manner the bleeding should be controlled and bandage made with the practical demonstration with the necessary explanation.  Along with the practical demonstration it was explained in what manner the Artificial respiration to be provided.It was also described practically how we should make the bandage for the bone fractured victims of the disasters. If there is only one volunteer is available in the spot of disaster, how should he carry the much affected ones of the disaster.If there are two volunteers in the disaster affected area it was explained in what manner they should carry the affected ones of that location. That explanation was given along with the practical demonstration.  Finally project co-ordinator delivered the vote of thanks to the participants of the meeting, president and guest etc.

COMMUNITY BASED DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT (CBDRM) TRAINING PROGRAMME AT PERIYAKUMATTI PANCHAYAT, PARANGIPETTAI UNION, CUDDALORE DISTRICT

 At Periyakumatti Panchayat, Parangipettai Panchayat union, Cuddalore district Community Based Disaster Management Awareness Training Programme was held with the presidence of President, Panchayat level women Self Help Group Federation in the presence of Animator, Women Self Help Group, Project Manager Global Giving & Chevalier Roche Society Project Manager provided the Training. During this Training Programme follow in formation were offered. Provision of Disaster Awareness Training Programme to every person in the society is very essential now days. It was explained detail as follows.Due to the climate change in a particular location heavy rain fall is occurred. In some other places there are no enough rain fall and drought found. So here are the possibilities for a disaster. It was explained in detail. In order to avoid drought trees shall be planed and protected. In this manner we can protect the water resource and lift up the ground water level. To avoid the rain flood disaster Encroachments of water path routes must be removed. Banks of the tanks and ponds must strengthen and protected to avoid the breakings of banks.  It was also described about the low lying areas of huts (thatched houses) filled areas, low lying areas shall be traced and identified and how far the priority shall be provided them. It was also described to them. It was explained in detail to know and identify the locations of Children, Women, Alternative Skilled, Aged People, Lepers and where are they in the village? How many such people are there in the village? The priority to be given to them was also explained in detail with practical demonstration. It was advised to form village level Disaster Management groups, Search & Recovery Team and First Aid Team and to provide Training Continually for them. It was suggested to find safety places and evacuation routes and inform these to everybody in the village.

RECOVERY & FIRST AID TRAINING:

It was explained about the usefulness of First Aid during the Disaster especially soon after the accident met, to save life, to speed up to recovery process from life, to speed up the recovery process form the illness and protect the health condition of the disaster affected person it was described to them in detail.A good First Aid provider would keenly look at the Disaster affected person with sober mind and would use his brilliance with the self confidence he would work fast with the disaster affected person . It was asked to make a phone call either to the hospital or to the Ambulance about the condition of the disaster affected person before beginning the First Aid activities to the affected person. Being recognized the defect of the disaster affected person, we must provide the First Aid service according the condition of the disaster affected person. It was demonstrated in what manner Artificial respiration to be provided.It was also demonstrated practically how to control the bleeding and bandage to be made surrounding the bleeding injury. It was also explained with the practical demonstration in what manner bandage to be made for a bone fractured person. How shall we carry the disaster affected person? It was demonstrated practically during the First Aid & Recovery Training during the disaster. Finally Co-ordinator, Chevalier Roche Society delivered the vote of thanks in this Community Based Disaster Management Awareness Training Programme.
