PROJECT UNDER: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU, S.INDIA

PROJECT SITE: KANNAGINAGAR, CHENNAI

 SUCCESSFUL ENTREPRENEUR:  We promote Livelihood Activities along with the usual Disaster Management Trainings. Most of the women in this area learned about the manufacture of these products. After learning well about the manufacture of these products one woman named Mrs.K.Veni became a successful entrepreneur. She prepares washing materials such as Phenoil, Soap oil and Cleaning Acid on her own as a cottage industry. Now she is able to sell these products in this area and she is able to earn some amount for her livelihood. Now she her entrepreneurship products in super markets also. Now she is able to earn up to Rs. 13,000/- (2000 Dollars) per month leaving the other expenses likewise Mrs. K. Veni some other women also have come forward to do the entrepreneurships individually on their own. Mrs. K. Veni entrepreneurship Centre’s name is “Clean & Clean Chemicals.”  She conveyed their heartfelt thanks to our Global Giving generosity and their Donors. We have enclosed here with successful entrepreneur photograph with her Products.

LIVELIHOOD TRAINING: For the vulnerable community of Kannaginagar we demonstrated Disaster Management, First Aid, Mock Drill and Water Test. Likewise these we mainly planned to provide Alternative Livelihood Programme. In this manner we taught them home need products such as washing oils phenoil manufacture, Phenoil with Jasmine fragrance of our preparation, Stomach ache syrub, Oma water preparation Cleaning Acid preparation, and Soap oil preparation were taught to them with practical demonstration. In this phenoil manufacture with the contents of the preparation Jasmine Scent and Water were added now the Phenoil is ready. It can be filled 1ltr bottle and sealed. Now it is ready for sale.   

For Stomach Ache Syrub: Add Thymol with method in a heavy vessel and allow it to boil by heating with some quantity of water according to the ratio and filter the compound with a wet cloth. Now the Stomach ache syrub water is ready for use. It can be filled in 1ltr measure bottles and sealed. Now it is ready for sale.

  DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING: Cyclone, Tsunami, Heavy flood, Jungle fire, contagious diseases like wise so many disasters may be formed. If anything is occurred so, how shall we protect ourselves from those disasters? Such explanations were given to the students when such disaster comes how shall we protect us from those disaster? We explained the students every disaster, their defects, safety measures for us to protect us were explained. This generation students must clearly know about these disasters, defects. Being know these they must inform about these to their parents, friends and relatives etc. and also they must tell them in what manner we can protect ourselves and also shall tell them about the protection rules and also encourage them to share these facts with others. Tremors and cyclone are occurred almost every year. Because of this so many lives loss material loss are being occurred every year. You are requested help the people who have lost their shelters, possessions and everything. Whatever you do with the helping mind those all would be useful for our people of nation. During the time of Tsunami in 2004 our costal are met hue losses of lives, articles and so many losses. During that occasion many contagious diseases easily. Spread to many areas. In order to avoid the spreading of contagious diseases, we must allow the still water to be stagnant surrounding our houses. Always we must keep the food materials in closed vessels. Stagnant water with green mass in the Tubs shall be removed immediately. Therefore we can prohibit the mosquitoes lay eggs in those locations. No unnecessary water and unclean water should not be found in our surrounding locations. In this manner we can avoid spreading of contagious diseases like Dengue, malaria etc.

     All students there were advised to avoid the situation of stagnant and still water surrounding their locations. Firing, huge flood like so many Natural Disasters are occurred. Artificial disasters are cracker accidents, Misbehaves, Murder, Fire Accidents, Contagious diseases can be known by the school and college students. If the students take a lead part and serve as a Role Model they can prevent many artificial disasters. Students also in from these affairs to their friends and relatives and can do their better for the benefit of the public.

FIRST AID TECHNIQUES: First Aid Awareness Programme was convened for students at the community centre, Kannagi Nagar. In our street a man is traveling by a two wheeler. All of a sudden he falls down. For him we arranged the students to do the First Aid without any delay. With the injured person location of injury was found out. Then a clean cloth was kept upon the injury and tight bandage was made upon the injury. Pulse rate, heartbeat, beat on the temples of the forehead and also upon the front side of the neck beats were checked Disaster affected person’s living condition was confirmed with the above said checkups.   

MOCK – DRILL PROGRAMME:In the Flood Disaster Kannagi Nagar area was the most badly affected area. Most of the people over there lost their livelihood resources. It was taught to the students in what manner the disaster affected should be relieved and left out from the risky location. Especially aged people entangled the flood can be brought with the help of Blankets or thick dhotis or thick sarees. By which we can make an artificial stretcher like form. That demonstration was performed. Both ends of the clothing must be held grip with two persons. Then the affected person can be laid upon the clothing carried easily to the Ambulance or to the vehicle which is ready to travel to the hospital. In some cases two persons can jointly help the affected person and with their hands make a chair like form. The disaster affected person who is unable to walk can be easily carried to the Ambulance or any nearby place. This demonstration also was performed.

WATER ANALYSIS: When disasters are occurred we cannot get the electricity connection properly. Here the drinking water is found with many impurities. We informed the vulnerable community of this area how we could solve this problem. We informed the people of Kannagi Nagar through the trainee students. Water must be heated well and let it be cooled and filtered. Then we can drink that pure water. If we drink the water which was obtained through tap causes many infections here. Water sample was collected at Kannagi Nagar and that sample was tested with TWAD KIT. During the Test with TWAD Kit PH value, Iron content, Potassium content, Phosphate content, Chlorine content were found out and this was informed to the students and also community at Kannagi Nagar.
