Flood Disaster Response at Tamil Nadu, S.India

REPORT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER AWARENESS TRAINING TO AFFECTED COMMUNITY

PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMILNADU, S.INDIA 

            Flood Disaster Management Awareness Training Programme was offered to the Self Help Women Group Members at Ambedkar Nagar, Kurinji Nagar, Ezhil Nagar of Thoothukudi Corporation areas which were affected by flood in major level during the year 2015 in the precedence of Animator, Muthu Women Self Help Group at Derose Centre, Thoothukudi in the presence of Animator, Kundu Malli Women Self Help Group. Mr.A.Dhamotharan, Global Giving Project Manager delivered lecture in this programme and provided the training for the participants of the programme. During the Training Programme following information were offered.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING:

Before the rainy season canals, streams etc. such water pathways must be set right, and the encroachments of the same should be removed. It was well emphasized to the trainees easily disaster affected areas such as huts, low lying areas shall be identified. It was emphasized to the trainees. Easily affected people such as Alternative skilled, Aged People, Lepers, Children, mentally affected and women living areas should be identified in order to give the first priority. Evacuation routes shall be identified in order to escape from the village areas. It was stressed firmly during the training programme. Trainees were asked to know the high areas and protected areas must be known clearly. It was also emphasized to form the Village Level Disaster Management Groups It was explained how the early Warning Activities shall be taken and how shall the people be prepared to face the Disasters. It was taught how the individual skills social skills be developed and Co-ordinated. Emergency Help Centre’s such as Police Station, Fire Service or Recovery Station, Hospital, Ambulance, Revenue Dept officers Address and phone Nos. must be collected. It would be helpful during the disaster times. It was suggested to make ready the soil Bags to block water and to avoid the over flowing. Streams, ponds, lakes shall be protected by strengthening their banks and to plants trees on banks. It was explained clearly to the participants. Participants were asked to form a small level community based Disaster Management Action Projects.

FIRST AID TRAINING:

It was explained how a first aid to be made for small and big injuries. It was explained about importance of all must know about First Aid. It was described in detail how shall be the activities of a good First Aid Helper. It was also explained how he should work. General Rules of the First Aid were explained in detail. It was also explained in detail about how shall the first aid workers work fast with gentleness according to the situation. It was too described about the formation of Village Level First Aid Groups and how should be the activities of them. It was explained how we should take a person who was affected in disaster to be hospital by life saving action in a speedy manner. It was explained with demonstration in what manner the hemorrhage could be controlled by making bandage surrounding the injuries. It was also demonstrated how we should make bandage to the person who were fractured as the fractured persons would have the heavy defect of the disaster. It was also the demonstration was performed to protect the unconscious persons by providing the artificial Respiration. With the demonstration it was taught practically in what manner the disaster affected person could be carried to the hospital. Finally Project Co-ordinator delivered the Vote of thanks and the programme was accomplished successfully.

DISASTER RISK REDUCTION MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME

THRO DHALITH WOMEN COMMUNITY  

Young men and Women belong to the Dhalith Community who are in weak condition at Thoothukudi District were provided the Disaster Loss Reduction Management Awareness Training Programme at Derose Training Centre, Thoothukudi. This Training Programme was offered in the presidence of Vice President, Tamilnadu Dhalith Women Liberation Movement in the presence of Director, Green Foundation, Mr.A.Dhamotharan, Global Giving Aided Project Manager offered this Training. During this Training Programme following information were taught to the young men & Women.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING:

By some rare incidents and climate changes being found on earth, now a day’s disasters an unavoidable one in our lives evidently it was explained in detail. How Cyclone is formed basically from the Air pressure Low stage. And that low stage becomes the Low Region and that Low Region becomes and is formed as the cyclone. Because of this continuous rain fall and following that excess flood are occurred. It was explained in detail and clearly. In this manner types of disasters, formation of disasters and what types of defects are occurred by them. in which various types of Natural and Artificial disasters and their effected were explained in detail. Beyond the human power of resistance what types of disasters are occurred and what are their effects? How can we face that? These were explained in detail. Necessity of Disaster Management and the Cyclone of Disaster Management was described in detail. Disasters cannot be blocked or stopped. At the same time measure of defects may be reduced. For the purpose such Awareness Training Programmes are convened. And the purpose of the Training was also explained in detail. What is the power decreased position? It was explained in detail. How for the people who are in the very power decreased position is affected much? It was described elaborately to the participants. It was explained in detail regarding the reasons for the power decreased position of people in India. A few disasters occurred in India during the past 50 years, the loss of lives and the material damages by those were explained in detail. University occurred disasters, loss of lives and material damages by that during the past 20 years were explained in detail. It was described in detail how we shall overcome the disasters in our areas during the future times. How shall we face those? How shall we give the fore warning to the people? How shall we prepare the people? How shall we form the village level Disaster Management Groups? How shall be the Activities of the groups? Regarding these, it was clearly taught to the participants of the Training. Proper explanation was given regarding the power decreased locations in the villages and people, identification of those. How for the priority shall be given to them? Safety places and evacuation routes must be identified. This was emphasized strongly. What shall we do before the occurrence of the disaster? What shall we do after the occurrence? What shall we do during the occurrence of the disaster such Three Stages of disaster were clearly explained.

FIRST AID & RECOVERY TRAINING:

Purpose of the First Aid and its necessity was explained in detail It was also explained about providing the First Aid according to this quality of the defect to people being affected by the accidents and disasters. What type of First Aid to be provided towards the scratches and minor injuries were explained with practical demonstration. It was also demonstrated how shall we provide the First Aid for the head injured and how shall we make the bandage for them? How shall we treat control the heavily injured and has much bleeding. These were explained with practical demonstration. What type of bandage shall be made for the bone fractured and what method of First Aid to be provided to them? It was explained with the practical demonstration. How shall we give the artificial respiration for the unconscious person was explained with practical demonstration? In order to increase the speed of the heart beat for those who have the decreased heart beat. What type of activities shall be done? How shall we give pressure upon the chest? It was demonstration evidently with explanation. How can single person carry the person who met accident or disaster when a man or women only is there for help? Demonstration was shown with the explanation. It was also explained how they can disaster affected person be carried to the hospital, if there are two helpers. How shall we carry the disaster affected person by using the available materials such as chair, cot, saree, door etc. Demonstration was performed with the explanation. How shall we recover the fore injured what type of First Aid can be provided to them? These were also explained in detail. We must know the particulars about the information regarding Ambulance before providing the First Aid help and recovery activities for the disaster affected. All these arrangements shall be made as soon we see the disaster affected persons. They only we can do everything in order without unnecessary delay. Finally the Project Co-ordinator delivered the Vote of thanks.
