PROJECT UNDER: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE, TAMILNADU, S. INDIA

First Aid Training Programme and Livelihood Training Programme to the Flood Affected Vulnerable Community at Santhosh Nagar Egmore Chennai was conducted. It was done through the Global Giving aided project through the organization Chevalier Roche Society. FIRST AID TRAINING:Natural Disasters such as rain flood, Cyclone etc. men are affected physically by bone fracture, head injury, Living condition of the affected person, Controlling of the bleeding formed made by injury, giving information to the Doctors and relatives such First Aid Training were offered. If a person is found injured allover the body and has much bleeding and found in unconscious condition. We must make a phone call through the phone of the affected person to No.108 for Ambulance and tell the clear Address, with the land mark and necessary information. Then the pulse must be checked for the unconscious person by checking at unit to know whether he is above or not OR we must check the shake of nerve at chin or forehead area. In this manner First Aid must be done and then the 108 Ambulance will come there and we can send the injured or affected person to the hospital. At the disaster affected area especially to the house upstairs and narrow lane in which the Ambulance can’t travel and where we have no enough equipments to carry the disaster affected person, with the help of 2men’s hands. We can make a chair like form we can carry the affected person. Also we make prepare a stretcher like form with the help of Bed Sheets, Saree, Dhoti and Blankets in the house and carry the affected person by that. Also the helper can help the affected person who is unable to walk by asking the affected person to keep his feet upon the feet of affected person and walk. In some other cases we may meet the person who is in the condition of unable to walk may be helped. In this case are helping person will help the affected person by going behind him and hold his chest with the help of two hands to the place of protection. All these were taught with the demonstration in detail. The people in this area themselves performed the First Aid Training. If it is also not known at the patients chest we can keep our palm and check his heart beat. Even if it is also not recognized on the left side of the chest where heart is located we can keep our ear and know the heart beat there. If the respiration is not found, we can cover the mouth of the affected person with a cloth to avoid infection and we can put our mouth with the affected person’s mouth and we can exhale our breathing and the affected person will begin to respirate. If we find anybody got injured upon head and have bleeding and we can take a saree or a hotly or shawl or towel or napkin and fear a small portion of the same and fold the same to four layers and keep it upon the spot of bleeding and make a bandage over there. As we do so, we can stop the bleeding before the arrival of Ambulance. If somebody has a fracture on his hand or leg, we can make a bandage surrounding that hand or leg after keeping scale or wooden sticks on both the sides of hand or leg. Following that we must make a cradle like arrangement by tying the bandage cloth surrounding the neck and hand so that the patients can bear the pain to some extent.

LIVELIHOOD TRAINING PROGRAMME

Livelihood Training was offered to the disaster affected people who had lost all of their possessions and had a questions mark about their future life. That is why we encouraged them and their we said that daily needs can be met. STOMACH ACHE SYRUP - OMA WATER PREPARATION: 10 liter quantity of pure water shall be taken and boiled well. After that 10gm wt. of a chemical named “Thymol” shall be added into the boiled water. With the help of a lid this vessel. Must be covered and boiled for about a period of 5 minutes. Then the stove must be turned off and let the content be cooled. Then it shall be feltered and filtered and filled in bottles. Now Oma Water is ready for use. For all types of stomach problems both children and adults may use this Oma Water. By selling this medicine we can earn a reasonable amount of money.

LIVELIHOOD TRAINING FOR WASHING SOAP OIL: Take a quantity of 100 gm Caustic Soda and add the same with the water in the Vessel. Pour a quantity 500ml Washing Soda into a bucket. Add 250gm quantity of 250gm of “Chillery” little by little and stir well, the same. Add the Caustic Soda solution with that and stir well with the help of a clean stick. Finally add a quantity of 10 ltr pure water with this. Now the Soap Oil is ready for use. Flooring areas, Bath room, Oil stains in Kitchen room, Windows, doors, Refrigerators, Bureau etc can be cleaned with the Soap Oil. Also this Soap can be used to clean thick blankets, Bed Sheets Trampling Mate, Cars and Two Wheelers also. As it is a necessary product for every home, by selling this Soap Oil, we can earn a reasonable amount of income.

KNOWING THE QUALITY OF DRINKING WATER THROUGH ANALYSIS  

In the disaster affected areas waste may be mixed with the pure water and would cause diseases to the people in that location. Also the quantity of pure water also may change. That is why PH value, quantity of Iron, Phosphate, Ammonia, Fluoride may also differ. There fore both the Children and Adults may be affected with many diseases such as tooth damage, Tooth stain, Bone Depreciation, indigestion, Ulcer, Throat problem, Iron deficit etc.  Hence it is necessary for us to test the water available, in the concerned location with the help of Field Water Teat Box being made by the scientists.Upon the paper given a drop of water shall be dropped. The changes found must be noted being compared with the Tabular Column given. Drinking Water in the usage must be taken 10ml quantity in a test tube. Add 5 drops of P₁ liquid with that. Then also add a drop of P2solution with that. Being compared with the tabular Column note the changes occurred and we may see the colour change.
