REPORT TITLE: CONTRIBUTION FOR LONG TERM PERSPECTIVES

PROJECT TITLE: FLOOD DISASTER RESPONSE AT TAMIL NADU, S.INDIA

 

SCHOOL LEVEL DISASTER MANAGEMENT AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAMMES

PLACE: R.C PRIMARY SCHOOL. EAST ALANGARATHATU THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT

TARGET GROUP: SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

The training was presided by Mrs. Nirmala, the Head mistress in the presence of Mrs. Esther Rani, a teacher. Mr. A.Dhamotharan, the project manager of Chevalier Roche Society participated and conducted training for the students on disaster management and how to prevent deaths by providing first aid. The information given to students and teachers.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING:

           School Building should be constructed in a safe manner so that it doesn’t cause life damage and property damage during disasters. Disaster has three periods 1. Before disaster 2. During disaster 3. After disaster The places avoid the school is identified and avoided. Accidents should be avoided by following the traffic rules. This was instructed to the students. Crowds are prevented during disaster so that stamping does not occur. This is instructed in a practical method. Do not us material which are highly inflammable. Use crackers under the guidance of parents in a safe manner. Instructions were given in how to privet fire accidents. Instructions were given on what to do during earth vibrations. When there is continuous rain, the students should listen keenly to the instructions given by the government. During storms and rains, one should not stand near old building, electric wires, transformers and trees. When there are floods during rain, we should be careful not to step in the water. Schools are asked to prepare disaster management plans with the help of teachers. Emerging alternate routes and weak places should be mentioned in the disaster management plan. Disaster management groups should be formed in school and continuous training must be provided.

FIRST AID & RESCUE TRAINING

          Chevalier Roche Society conducted the first aid & rescue training for the school children. The following information was provided during the training. When there is an accident or a disaster the students are instructed to phone the ambulance or fire service and provide the information. The first aid is provided quickly so that even there is a delay in the arrival of ambulance a fire service, lives could be saved. The heart beat of the people who have fainted and artificial breathing technique is identified and studied in this training. The bleeding of the injured people is slopped so that there is no further loss of blood If there are bone fractures, first aid is provided. People who are hurt badly and have minor injures are divided and rescued accordingly. Training is provided to rescue the victims who suffer fire burn injures. During disaster, the belongings are turned into instruments to save the previous lives. This is learnt in the training. In the end, the co-ordinator of Chevalier Roche Society, Mrs. J. Mary gave the vote of thanks.  

SCHOOL DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING

PLACE: R.C PRIMARY SCHOOL, TALAMUTHUNAGAR THOOTHUKUDI DISTRICT.

TARGET GROUP: SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

The disaster management training for the school students was presided by the Head mistress Mrs. Vincent in the presence of the teachers Mrs. Jeya and Mrs. Shopia. The training was provided by Mr. Dhamodran the Global giving aided project manager of Chevalier Roche Society and Mrs. Suyambu kani, the teacher of Chevalier Programme. The following information was provided during training.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING

A separate lesson on disaster management must be included in the subject and continuous training is given so that we can reduce the loss of lives and property damages. To prevent future disaster every human is instructed to love nature. This is deeply implanted in the minds of the school children. The different types of disaster such as men made disaster and natural disaster and its effects are explained to the school children. The ways to prevent disaster and its effects are explained in a plan1.The needs are assessed 2.Aims and targets are dreams 3.Methodology is provided 4.Surveillance and evaluation Students are asked to get involved in these. Depending upon the circumstances, the students could avoid the disaster. When communication is developed between one class and another class, as well as the teachers we could prevent the loss of lives. The octant of the damages caused by disaster is reduced through the training given to student through which they develop their skills. Students are asked to prepare themselves to face any situation in any circumstance in which they could save themselves from the disaster.   Compulsory swimming practice must be provided to all the students. First aid kit, and alternate route plans must be provided in every school and house. The telephone numbers of fire service, ambulance police, hospitals, school teachers, parents, panchayat leaders, disaster management groups should be knows to the students. During disaster, one should not be nervous but instead be focused. They should not believe in rumours and act in a safe manner.

RESCUE & FIRST AID TRAINING    

One should act wise and not be nervous in times of disaster during the rescue operation. The training is provided for creating such a mindset. The objects in the house are made into instruments of rescue and helps rescue people in times of disaster. Training is given in how to save people who are victims of fire accidents and building accidents. Reserve training is also provided in how to save people affected by floods. Blankets, Sweaters, Waistis, dupattas, and sarees are used as stretchers to help transport the people affected in disasters. Training is also provided in how to provide artificial breathing.Learning is provided on how to give first and to blood clot victims and fracture victims.After the training the disaster management awareness rally was organized. Many students and teachers participated in it. In this rally 1.Prevention is better then cure2.Love Nature3.Learn about Disasters 4. Care for the Victims Of Disasters 5.Grow trees protect the soil resource 6.Prevent droughts 7.Prevent the destruction of water resources8.Protect the environment 9.Save the water resource 10. Be united to save the world.There were the instructions given in the training. Finally the vote of thanks was provided by Mrs. Sudha, co –ordinator of Chevalier Roche Society.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT TRAINING

PLACE:MATHAVAN KOVIL STREET, ETTAYAPURAM ROAD, THOOTHUKUDI

TARGET GROUP: WOMEN SELF HELP GROUP MEMBERS

The disaster management awareness training in 40th ward of Thoothukudi district was headed by Mrs. Anuradha, the leader of My India women self help group Mrs. Seythali Pathima, a member presented it. Mr. A Dhamotharan, the manager of Global giving aided project, Chevalier Roche Society gave the training. During the training the following information was given.

REDUCING THE DISASTER VICTIMS

The skills to develop diving disaster as well as before disaster is explained in detail. What is disaster? How to reduce the disaster and how to prevent it? The answer to these questions was explained. Prevention of destruction of ground water resources is a way to reduce disasters. The types of disasters such as natural and man made the effects of the disaster and the reduction of the damages is also explained. The identification of people who are easily affected in disaster such as women, children, aged people, pregnant women, orphans, the differently abled, diseased people (highly) and people who have shifted newly. The places which are easily affected are kept in surveillance. The damages caused by disaster should be knows beforehand by foresight and insight. Houses and buildings should not be built, water areas as porels resources, lakes, and sea side.The shores of rivers and ponds are protected and dams are protected so that the water does not come rushing out. Wastage should not be dumped in the streets floods are prevented during rainy seasons by taking appropriate action. Building should be strong and not weak which easily fall down. Plant samplings should be grown in sea shores. Water resources should be protected and droughts are prevented through the actions taken by people. Send bogs should be prepared and kept. Rescue kit should also be kept in every house. Disaster management groups should be prepared and continuous training should be given The emergency numbers must be known Different routes and paths are identified and instructed to everyone.

FIRST AID MOCK DRILLS  

            Training is given on what kinds of first aid should be given during disasters and rescue plans in a practical method. Victims affected by fire are protected by giving training on how to put out the fire and rescue them. Training is given in how to save people trapped in buildings during accidents. People affected in floods are rescued through mock drills. Training is given in how to save people affected by electric accidents. Training is given in how to transport people affected in all kinds of disaster accordingly. Training was given by showing how to stop the flow of blood. Training was given by instructing how to provide first aid to victims suffering fractures by showing how to tie and transport the people. People drowned in floods are rescued and given first aid. Artificial breathing is provided to people who lose their consciousness during disaster. Before providing first aid and rescue actions, the information must be passed on to the ambulance service without fail.
