In 2018, Fishan one of the older bulls of the Jabulani Herd, stepped into a deep hole and fractured his Ulna bone in his front left leg. It was a serious injury requiring the attention of South Africa's top wildlife veterinarians. Over the years he developed a pressure sore on the elbow of his injured leg which requires frequent treatment. Today, he walks with a permanent limp, and has chronic pain, especially in winter, which is treated with medication and adjustments to his lifestyle.
Following a severe leg fracture in 2018, Fishan has been left with permanent damage impacting his mobility and comfort. Despite years of dedicated veterinary care and management, the injury resulted in permanent damage, leaving him with a limp and chronic pain especially during winter as well as a pressure wound. Today, his management includes ongoing veterinary monitoring, environmental adaptations that help ensure he remains comfortable enjoy a natural life with his herd.
We have been working closely with a number of veterinarians and specialists to better understand and support Fishan's condition. Through recent assessments, including specialist visit and X-rays, we now understand more clearly that Fishan's challenge lies not only in his joint, but in a long-standing bone injury that continues to affect his movement and comfort. Our focus remains on reducing strain on his leg, managing his pain and exploring advanced treatments and tailored supplementation.
His injury remains complex, and while there is no simple solution, every step forward is guided by compassion, and what is best for him. We have implemented simple yet meaningful changes, such as sand mounds for easier resting, which are already making a difference in his daily comfort. Fishan continues to be part of the Jabulani herd, still engaging, still responding, still very much himself, although we remain mindful of the impact that physical exertion can have on his condition.
