1. Background & Rationale
Chitral, located in the mountainous region of northern Pakistan, is rich in culture and natural beauty but faces significant social and geographic challenges. Due to conservative norms, limited facilities, and a shortage of female role models in sports, girls and young women in Chitral have historically had little to no access to structured sports training or safe recreational spaces.
Physical activity for girls is often discouraged, and the absence of women-led platforms further restricts their confidence, mobility, and leadership development. At the same time, there is growing interest among young females who wish to participate in sports, improve their health, and build skills — but they lack opportunity and support.
To address this gap, we are establishing the first Women-Led Sports & Community Center in Chitral, where trained female coaches provide professional sports training in a safe, culturally appropriate environment.
2. Project Goal
To empower girls and young women in Chitral through access to safe sports training, leadership development, and community engagement led by female coaches.
3. Project Objectives
Provide structured sports training to at least 150 female athletes in the first year.
Create a safe and inclusive environment where girls can participate in physical activities without social barriers.
Develop female leadership by training and employing local women as certified sports coaches.
Promote physical and mental well-being among adolescent girls and young women.
Engage the wider community to build positive attitudes toward girls’ participation in sports.
4. Project Description
The project will establish a dedicated sports and community center in Chitral managed and operated primarily by women. The center will function as both a sports training facility and a safe community space for girls and young women.
Key Features of the Center
Indoor and outdoor sports areas
Training sessions led by qualified female coaches
Changing rooms and privacy-compliant facilities
Community hall for workshops and awareness sessions
Basic fitness and sports equipment
Sports Training Activities

Volleyball
Badminton
Athletics (running, fitness drills)
Table tennis
Basic self-defense and fitness programs
Training sessions will be age-group specific and conducted on a weekly schedule.
5. Role of Female Coaches
This project is unique because it is fully women-led.
Female coaches from the local community will:
Conduct regular sports training sessions
Mentor young athletes
Serve as role models for girls
Encourage parents and families to support girls’ participation
Identify talented athletes for district and regional competitions
These coaches will also receive capacity-building workshops to strengthen their technical and leadership skills.
6. Target Beneficiaries Direct Beneficiaries
150–200 girls and young women (ages 10–22) in the first year
Indirect Beneficiaries
Families of participants
Local schools and colleges
The wider Chitral community, through changing perceptions about women in sports

Increased physical fitness and confidence among participating girls
Improved self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership skills
Greater community acceptance of female sports participation
Creation of a sustainable, women-led sports platform in Chitral
Identification of talented athletes for district and national-level opportunities
8. Community Engagement
Community acceptance is key in Chitral. The project will:
Hold parent and community meetings to explain the importance of girls’ sports
Involve local elders and leaders as supporters of the initiative
Organize sports events and exhibitions where families can see girls’ achievements
Conduct awareness sessions on health, nutrition, and women’s empowerment
9. Sustainability
The center is designed for long-term sustainability through:
Training local female coaches, reducing reliance on outside staff
Building partnerships with schools, local government, and sports associations
Introducing small membership contributions (where feasible)
Seeking sponsorships for tournaments and equipment
Gradually developing competitive teams that can attract recognition and funding
10. Monitoring & Evaluation
Progress will be monitored through:
Attendance records of training sessions
Number of girls enrolled and retained
Feedback from participants and parents
Performance of athletes in local competitions
Regular reports from coaches and center management
11. Conclusion
The First Women-Led Sports & Community Center in Chitral is more than a sports facility — it is a platform for confidence, leadership, health, and social change. By placing women at the center of sports development, this project will break barriers, inspire a new generation of female athletes, and create lasting impact in one of Pakistan’s most underserved regions.
