Progress Toward Our New Center

By Diana Sacipa | Fundraising Transformation Manager

The dream of building the first Integral Childhood Cancer Center in Latin America continues to move forward, despite challenges along the way. Fundación Nuestros Hijos has long provided free, comprehensive support to disadvantaged children with cancer, helping them increase life expectancy, improve quality of life, and reduce the psychosocial impact of the illness. This new center represents the next step in our mission: consolidating all our services under one roof, expanding our reach to teenagers and families from neighboring countries, and offering worldclass care that will transform pediatric oncology in the region.

The construction of the building was initially delayed due to the bidding process. While this setback required us to adjust our timeline, we are pleased to share encouraging progress. We now have three qualified bidders who meet the high standards of construction quality required for such a specialized facility. However, differences remain between the projected construction costs and the resources currently available. We are actively working to secure additional funding to bridge this gap, with the goal of beginning construction by mid2026.

This center will be a place of hope and healing. It will expand our housing capacity from 19 to 63 families and increase our annual support services from 100,000 to 150,000. By consolidating medical care, rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and family housing in one location, we will reduce the risks associated with transporting immunocompromised children between different facilities. Moreover, the center will extend specialized care to teenagers aged 15–19, whose treatment needs closely resemble those of younger children, and will welcome families from across Latin America, where survival rates remain lower than in Chile.

Beyond direct patient care, the center will serve as a hub for education, research, and professional training, strengthening pediatric oncology expertise across the region. Our longterm vision is to replicate this model in other countries, multiplying its impact and offering thousands of families the chance at a brighter future.

We are deeply grateful to every donor and partner who has stood by us. Your support is helping us overcome obstacles and move closer to making this center a reality. Together, we are building not only a building, but a legacy of resilience, compassion, and hope for children with cancer and their families.
