First Latam Integral Center for childhood cancer

Thanks to a joint effort between Fundación Nuestros Hijos, the Government of Santiago and the Ministry of Public Works, Chile will have this modern center.

Fundación Nuestros Hijos (FNH) announced that the construction of the largest integral support center for childhood cancer in Latin America will begin, thanks to a joint effort between the NGO, the Government of Santiago and the Ministry of Public Works.

The organization maintains that most childhood cancer patients are treated in the public system, and it will be precisely this center that will attend to the needs not covered by public policies for cancer patients and their families, thanks to its modern, state-of-the-art infrastructure. According to the president of FNH, Dr. Marcela Zubieta, “it is important to increase the survival of adolescents and young adults by incorporating new specialized centers that increase their possibilities, since, at present, patients over 15 years of age are treated in adult centers without optimal results, so we will begin to assist this group of patients”.

Features of the center

It will have state-of-the-art technology and a multidisciplinary approach specialized in childhood cancer, which will have administrative offices, a rehabilitation center with all the state-of-the-art equipment and specialties necessary for this program, a procedure room, a therapeutic garden, as well as professional consultation rooms and stimulation rooms for children.

In addition, FNH's housing facilities will be tripled to accommodate patients and their families coming from outside Santiago to receive treatments, radiotherapy (new national children's center at the Exequiel Gonzalez Cortes Hospital), rehabilitation, among others.

The building will also have an auditorium, facilities necessary to maintain FNH's educational programs in different areas such as early diagnosis and other disciplines related to childhood and juvenile cancer.

It should be noted that FNH is a field of practice for 8 Chilean universities and also has programs for institutional strengthening and transfer of successful programs with multiple organizations in the region.
