In Fundación Nuestros Hijos we currently attend up to 80% of children diagnosed with cancer in the country, and we have contributed significantly to improve childhood cancer survival rates in Chile by attending some of the main difficulties that families with low income come across when their child is diagnosed and starts the path to recovery. Some of these difficulties are long travels, high cost of transportation and home rent close to the Hospital where their child is being treated, high dropout school rates during treatment and low rates of reintegration to original schools once the child is recovered. Also, after treatment 80% of the children have some physical or cognitive sequelae. Through ten clinical specialties we deliver the specific rehabilitation therapy that the child needs, at any stage of the disease including Palliative Care; and for as long as required. For this we have the specialists and the latest generation equipment in a biosafety environment for immunocompromised children that make it a unique facility in Latin America.
