First Aid in Peru is Still Going Strong!

By Jenny Jordan | Development Officer

With your support, our First Aid Training Program continues to be one of the most popular continuing education programs among our health workers! I’m excited to share some updates from the past few months:

  • Since their training last August, health workers have provided more than 1,600 first aid house calls for their neighbors! About 40% of their work involves wound care and first aid.
  • Dr. Claudia Bouvier has been working diligently to keep health workers’ first aid kits stocked and there's a new shipment of supplies on the way! You play a huge part in keeping this program sustainable by not only allowing us to provide the initial kits but keeping them stocked so that our health workers continue to have the life-saving supplies they need to provide first aid care to their communities!
  • Promotoras are continuing to hone and share their skills as they provide first aid trainings for our visiting student groups as well, including a group of 13 students from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a group of 16 high school students and 5 instructors from World Leadership School. This is huge because it 1) provides health workers the opportunity to practice their skills, 2) allows them to earn extra income for their families, and 3) elevates and empowers them as leaders and teachers!

So on behalf of all our staff and health workers, thank you for continuing to support this program and for making all of this and more possible. We couldn’t do it without you!
