This project will provide crucial first aid supplies and advanced first aid training to 55 community health workers in remote Andean communities where access to health care is limited and having health workers to provide quality first aid can be the difference between life and death.
Access to health care in Sacred Valley Health's partner communities is extremely limited by poor road conditions and lack of transportation. The nearest health center, which provides only basic care, is on average a 4 hour walk over rough mountain terrain, and the nearest hospital is another 2 hours by car from this health outpost. Weather, roadblocks, and the availability of transportation can make this journey even more difficult.
Having community health workers (CHWs) to provide quality first aid can be the difference between life and death. Community members and CHWs have requested more first aid trainings and supplies to face the challenges presented by daily life.
The goal of this project is to establish a sustainable method to compile and keep adequately stocked first aid kits for 55 health workers to be used in case of emergency. Upon receiving their first aid kits, CHWs will be given advanced first aid training by trained medical professionals. Finally, tracking the use of first aid supplies will provide more insight to problems faced by our partner communities and enable us to better support our health workers and their communities over the long-term.
