The horse stock trailer in use, Woolsey Fire
In November, 2018, the Humane Society of Ventura County was, once again, on the front line of a devastating forest fire impacting our region. Thanks to the horst stock trailer that GlobalGiving kindly provided, along with our dedicated Humane Society of Ventura County Staff, we were able to rescue over 100 farm animals and horses to our main facility in Ojai. The Woolsey Fire destroyed nearly 1,700 structures, many of which were large ranches in Malibu. Some of these properties had dozens of horses and without this horse stock trailer, there was no telling what could have happened during this fire.
Now in February, we are just about done returning many of these animals back to their homes using the horse stock trailer since the fire emergency is now over. However, as of today, February 14th, 2019, we still have nine horses remaining at the Humane Society of Ventura County that were evacuated from the Woolsey Fire. Hopefully in the near future, they will be able to go home. Until then, they can stay here for as long as needed. Moving forward, we are now able to offer rescue and transporting assistance for large animals to many areas across Southern California when disaster strikes. Forest fires and flooding are becoming the norm and fortunately or unfortunately, the horse stock trailer will be put to good use.
