On November 8th, 2018, Southern California was hit again with another fire emergency and the Humane Society of Ventura County went into action. We rescued over 70 horses, cows, goats, and pigs using the new horse trailer that GlobalGiving kindly funded. We were able to bring these animals, some of them severely injured from the fire, to our Ojai facility. These animals will stay here for as long as necessary until they can be safely reunited with their owners. We are forever grateful!
The horse trailer that was kindly provided by GlobalGiving assisted our organization with over 70 large scale animal rescues, mainly in the Malibu Canyon area. This long lasting drought, which is now the new normal, is causing fires to burn out-of-control with erratic and destructive behavior. We will need to access more remote areas during the next disaster. Due to all of this fire damage, flooding will now be the next concern. We will be ready for any set of circumstances.
The Humane Society of Ventura County will be called upon again to help locally or regionally with animal rescues during our next disaster. With a 4 x 4 truck, along with another trailer, we will be able to access very remote and rural locations. It was difficult to reach some areas during the last fire. A 4 x 4 truck will remedy this concern.
A new 4 x 4 truck and horse trailer will help save more animals. The Humane Society of Ventura County will be counted on again to help. We will be ready!
