1. Background of the Incident

A devastating fire outbreak occurred at Ndiba Street in the town of Kumba, located in the South West Region of Cameroon. The fire rapidly spread through residential buildings, destroying homes, household items, food supplies, clothing, and essential documents.

The affected families were left homeless and are currently facing severe humanitarian challenges including lack of shelter, food insecurity, exposure to harsh weather, and psychological trauma.

Kumba, which has already experienced socio-economic strain due to the ongoing Anglophone crisis in the South West Region of Cameroon, is now further burdened by this disaster.

2. Problem Statement

The fire disaster has resulted in:

Destruction of residential buildings

Loss of personal belongings and vital documents

Displacement of families (including women, children, and elderly persons)

Increased vulnerability to hunger and illness

Emotional and psychological distress

Without urgent intervention, affected households risk worsening living conditions, health complications, and long-term socio-economic instability.

3. Objectives of the Project

General Objective

To provide immediate emergency relief and support to families affected by the fire disaster at Ndiba Street, Kumba.

Emergency Humanitarian Support & Resettlement for Fire Victims of Ndiba Street, Kumba I Municipality

2. Summary

On the morning of June 27, 2025, a devastating fire swept through Ndiba Street (popularly known as Under Mango) in the Kumba I Municipality. The incident destroyed five wooden houses, leaving nearly 20 families homeless. The majority of the victims are Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who had already fled their homes due to the ongoing Anglophone crisis, making the situation even more distressing.

The fire caused significant material loss, destroying shelter, personal belongings, food items, documents, and livelihoods. Fortunately, no human casualties were recorded.

3. Problem Statement / Challenge

The fire disaster has resulted in:

Immediate Challenges

1. Destruction of Property:
   Five homes constructed mainly from wood burnt completely, causing total loss of household items, clothing, food, furniture, and working tools.

2. Displacement of Families:
   Nearly 20 families—mostly IDPs affected by the Anglophone crisis—now lack shelter and basic necessities. Many are already vulnerable, unemployed, and traumatized due to previous displacement.

3. Lack of Emergency Relief:
   Victims require urgent support including food, bedding, temporary shelter, medical care, and counseling.

• Poor housing standards and congestion in informal settlements
• Limited access to fire prevention knowledge or tools
• Psychological distress due to repeated crises
• Weak enforcement of safety regulations

4. Project Objectives

This project aims to:
