This project will complete ROF's Akili Suites; 15 low cost housing units that will provide safe accommodation for local teachers and workers in rural, Kisumu, Kenya. Rental income from the units will sustain scholarships for vulnerable girls, 15 of whom are already in college. By reducing reliance on unpredictable donations, this project will secure long-term educational support for hundreds of girls from poor rural families.
For the past five years, our scholarships campaign has relied on the generosity of donors around the world. While life-changing, this support is unpredictable and deeply affected by stiff competition for funding. It makes long-term planning for our students very difficult. We know that without a sustainable local resource base, the progress we've made is at risk. Our vulnerable girls deserve assurance that their education won't be interrupted.
The Akili Suites is our answer to the challenge of sustainability. Phase One of the project comprises 15 affordable housing units that are already under construction and now only require finishing. Once complete, these units will provide decent accommodation for local teachers and NGO workers while generating a reliable monthly rental income of about $900. This income will go directly toward sustaining scholarships for vulnerable girls and covering essential operational costs.
This project will unlock a self-sustaining source of funding for scholarships, ensuring that vulnerable girls in our program can continue their journey through high school and into college. It will allow us to expand support to even more students in the future and guarantee that the dreams of girls we have walked with for the past years will not be cut short. 15 girls are already in college, breaking barriers and building brighter futures.
