Zika update from MAP International

By MAP International Staff | Global Giving

There is no vaccine for the Zika virus, which is why our efforts to control it are key. MAP has responded and fulfilled field requests for strong mosquito repellents, pain relievers and antibiotics. Our primary goal is to protect mothers and their unborn children from this virus that is known to cause birth defects and poor pregnancy outcomes.

The WHO’s director-general said that where the virus is active there’s been a “steep increase in the birth of babies with abnormally small heads and in cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome.”  Both can cause severe developmental issues, potential paralysis and sometimes death.
