The number of people infected with the COVID-19 virus in Haiti continues to grow. Our rural partners cannot stay sheltered in place as their livelihood depends entirely on them being out in the fields working. We are taking measures to provide members of 60 organizations (over 3,000 families) with the education needed on the pandemic and the necessary equipment to protect themselves, their families and communities.
The COVID-19 pandemic is trickling its way through Haiti. There is no healthcare system to withstand this crisis, the hospitals are already overwhelmed and they lack the necessary medical staff and equipment. Our rural partners are unable to shelter in place because everything that they depend on to survive is out in the field. They must work them daily, but do not have the basic knowledge to protect themselves.
Phases I & II of this program will contribute towards the health and safety of 60 grassroots organizations. They will be provided with the necessary knowledge, tools and equipment to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus among their families and communities. Nalda Odeus, Founder of AFAGM (Gros-Morne Association of Women in Action), says "without Lambi standing by us with this project, we would have no other support. Lambi's training on awareness of the virus is giving us strength and hope."
More than 150,000 people will gain the knowledge necessary to protect themselves and the people around them against the COVID-19 virus. It is affecting everyone. A friend of our Development Officer succumbed to COVID. Their families are heartbroken. Help us protect the people of Haiti from experiencing that same fate. Preventative measures and equipment in the countryside are direly needed. They will help save the lives of over 3,000 families in the North and South regions.
