Challenges facing the Ebola orphans we work with

By VAAFD TEAM | VAAFD TEAM

On 4 JANUARY 2016, WHO finally declared the end of the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Liberia and says all known chains of transmission have been stopped in West Africa. There are many who showed kindness and love to the people of Liberia and especially the Ebola orphans that were left behind. We to want appreciate all those who were touched to give their support to the kids we work with. Since the end of the epidemic many people who were giving their support cut them off and today most of the kids are in desperate need. I arrived in Bong County on February 13, 2017 at the precise hour of 9:45 am and I first make a stop on the Phebe Lutheran community high school campus where we have most of the ebola orphans to make their final payment for the year and also pay for Daniel West African Examination fees since it is due. When I got on the campus students have gone for vacation and only school administrators were in their offices.

I met with the business manager to collect our students’ final bill for the year that which was given to me and I quickly called Daniel and Princess to come to me since they are closer to the area and they did. But when they arrived,  I realized that Princess was pregnant and this came as a shut to me and I said to her Princess what am I seeing their? She said to me, I’m sorry and I know that you and others are helping to provide for our tuitions but on the other hand we need to survive, life has become very challenging for us since our family died and she continue, we got all the support from you that which help us but now only education you are able to take care of and base on this I have to sleep with someone who I felt that could be able to help me and my siblings and trying to do that this the result I go but the good news is that I am still in school. I have actually transferred to the extension which is the night school I promise that I will end the school year.

I actually went out of word and felt terrible the question I kept asking myself is that how a 17 years old child gets pregnant now who will take care of baby for her to be able to continue her education. All that she said challenged me and the fact is that we have not had donations coming in as recent therefore we have just been able managed to meet up with their education needs. Daniel said that he was happy that he is finally getting out of high school and he wish to go to college but if he can’t get any support to enroll at college, he will find something to do with his high school education.

Many thanks to all of those who have supported this project and we ask that please continue your support to help these kids achieve their educational goal they do not have any more parent but they look at you and I as their only hope in life we turn our back on them, life may get terrible for them.

Thank you again and we appreciate your love and cares as you continue to make the difference in the lives of these vulnerable kids
