VENEZUELA | Fighting Malnutrition in Orphanages

by South American Initiative

Many children in Venezuela are abandoned, some of them arrive at different hospitals, and at the doors of the orphanages inside cardboard boxes and backpacks. In the worst cases some newborns are found in the trash. The economic crisis that the country is going through has caused many parents to abandon their children because they do not have the economic resources to feed them. Many of these children arrive in a situation of critical malnutrition.

Some of the children do not have real beds to sleep. Orphanages have accepted more children than they can handle, and shelter is a real and growing problem. While the government of Venezuela is in turmoil, these children receive less attention than they deserve. The government of Venezuela is not sending enough supplies to the different orphanages across the country due to the current economic situation. That is why our nonprofit organization is determined to assist them.

We are currently providing food, clothes, shoes, school supplies to "Maria Auxiliadora Orphanage" and "Fundacion Semillita del Inmaculado Corazon de Maria". Our organization want to continue working with all the orphanages in the country. By preparing this project, we expect that many people join this beautiful cause that is changing many lives and becoming sad faces into happy faces.

Long-Term Impact

Most of the orphans are often the most vulnerable to being brought up in lives of crime and sexually exploited. We should take responsibility and conscience to help children who have been in difficult situations, and according to statistics, they are in a great likelihood of being abandoned and forgotten. With our help and effort we are looking after the future of these children to become better people full of goals, dreams and illusions.
