Patients Face Discrimination in Hospital Care

By Joy Ojochogwu Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank you for your support toward the Fight Racial Bias in Health Treatment Access project. Your contribution is truly appreciated and gives hope to patients who continue to experience unfair treatment within healthcare facilities. However, the donations received so far are not enough to begin the project yet, and more support is needed.

Many patients across Nigeria continue to report discrimination in hospitals based on ethnicity, religion, or tribal identity. In some cases, treatment delays and unequal attention affect patient safety and reduce trust in public healthcare services.

Without proper awareness, accountability, and staff training, many healthcare workers may continue practices that discourage equal access to care for vulnerable patients.

This project is designed to provide structured training, awareness materials, reporting systems, and accountability support for doctors and nurses in government-owned hospitals across Nigeria. The program will promote fair treatment standards where healthcare decisions are based on medical need rather than identity.

With the right support, hospitals can become safer and more trusted spaces where all patients receive equal treatment and respectful care.

We remain grateful for the support received so far and hopeful that additional contributions will make it possible to begin this important healthcare fairness initiative.

Thank you for your kindness and continued support.

Sincerely,

Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
