Training on cooperative management

Small Group Discussions About Management

HDI has formed 12 new HIV cooperatives since 2014.  These cooperatives have all received either goats or pigs.  HDI places importance on making sure these cooperatives become successful and sustainable.  Part of this is to train the cooperatives on management.

HDI had training on April 28th-30th for 60 members of the cooperatives.  This training was facilitated by a Rwandan with a background in Agriculture and Business.  He covered topics ranging from financial management to how to properly take care of the pigs.

The training also provided the cooperative members with an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns they have about becoming a successful cooperative.  The main concerns that were raised were:

  1. How to hold the cooperative representative financially responsible.
  2. How to find a market for their product when they are ready to sell.

As the coordinators of this project HDI takes the cooperatives concerns very seriously.  The coordinators of the project worked with the cooperative members to come up with solutions for these concerns.  HDI has experience with selling these products in market and will make sure the cooperative members are linked with these resources.  In addition, HDI set up the cooperatives in a way that the general assembly will have the financial records and will be able to hold the representative accountable for his/her financial management.

56 people attended the training, and the training was a HUGE success. As we continue to train these members it is our goal to see them become more independent and successful.
