Dear PCS friends and supporters,
If you listen carefully, you can still hear the echo of the New Year bells, that rang in 2017 with welcoming chimes of a new era. Here in California, with the new year came new rains that sprouted a landscape of green and a hopeful prayer that our drought is over. No matter the struggles that clawed at our feet in Winter, we made it to Spring. We have made it to the realm of new opportunity and progress. In this new year, we can proudly exclaim that Project Chicken Soup (PCS) enters its 28th year of service.
The challenges of 2016 have developed into the new opportunities of 2017. We found a new cooking location! We have formed a partnership with Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission (www.hopeofthevalley.org) and we are cooking in their recently built 2,500 sq. ft. commercial catering kitchen! We have exclusive use of this kitchen on each of our cooking dates and in addition to preparing our nutritious meals for PCS clients, we are providing meals on site to Hope of the Valley Rehabilitation Center patients who are recovering from illness or injury.
We began cooking on April 23th in our new location, and we relaunched our mission to support and serve our community with nutritious meals across Los Angeles. We are extremely blessed to be able continue our dear Mollie Pier’s legacy in a new kitchen one year from her passing and dedicated our inaugural cooking in the new location to her memory. As we prepared for that day, by gathering all the ingredients for the cooking and building new prep tables for improved kitchen operations; it is clear to us that the most important ingredient needed to heal the world is YOU. Your love, dedication and commitment makes springtime more beautiful for everyone.
Even though the year ahead is filled with possibilities, is also fraught with uncertainty; the fact remains that the safety net for many of our clients is at risk. Federal funding for food, housing and health care services are under attack, so it's even more critical now to ensure we will be there for our clients. Regardless of popular or political opinions, we remain dedicated to the reality that “Food Is Medicine.”
As always, we are blessed with unwavering support and dedication from you – our donors and volunteers – who make it possible to accomplish our mission; preparing and delivering nutritious meals to our clients living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses.
With your continued support, together we can make 2017 the year the drought ended in Los Angeles and the year our hearts were filled with love for our neighbors, the compassion for those in need and pride for each other who give without hesitation.
We truly thank you for being part of the PCS family and hope 2017 is a time of opportunity and growth for all.
Sincerely,
Albert Bugoff, PCS Board of Directors
