A large number of underprivileged children in rural areas of Madagascar must help their parents work in the fields early in the morning to afford basic school expenses. A school feeding program not only motivates these children to attend class but also plays a vital role in reducing the number of children living or working in the field or on the streets. Without access to education, these children face a cycle of poverty with little hope for change. Providing a daily meal at school is one of the
Hunger is one of the leading causes of school dropout and the growing number of children living on the streets in Madagascar. 47 percent of children in the rural areas are forced to assist their parents in the field before attending school and search through trash bins for food, pushing them into street life and away from the classroom. Without reliable access to meals, education becomes a lower priority for families struggling with survival.
Providing daily meals gives children a powerful reason to attend school. A feeding program helps meet their most basic needs while creating stability and motivation to continue their education. Thanks to school feeding programs, dropout rates has reduced significantly, with over 80% of participating students successfully transitioning from primary to secondary school.
By removing hunger as a barrier to education, more children, especially those at risk of ending up on the streets, can stay in school and transform their future. As more students complete their education, they are better equipped to lift themselves out of poverty, reducing the number of working children and street children, and creating lasting change in their communities.
