Belonging to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community is still illegal in many countries across the world, including countries in Africa. This is a violation of human rights which cause people to face daily discrimination and violence. This project supports LGBTQ activism in Africa to achieve policy change but also to end homophobia at a community level. We are also dedicated to educating individuals on the stigmas they may face to increase safety and awareness.
In many countries in Africa, being part and supporting the LGBTQ community means living with discrimination on a daily basis. Being denied the rights to express one's identity, facing name-calling, bullying, as well as being denied access to job opportunities, education and healthcare services. Due to the illegality of LGBTQ expression, there is no help from the government which is why many people are afraid to speak up to get LGBTQ rights and end homophobia.
Through donations, Action Change will provide LGBTQ advocates with resources to market their message on a local and global level to raise awareness within the nation but also to advocate for policy change. We will host workshops to educate individuals on relevant topics that affect their life including sexual health awareness and providing understanding about the stigmas they face so that people can empower others and create a safe environment.
By providing the financial means to advocate for policy change we can ensure that each nation is complying with the human rights related to LGBTQ rights. This will provide a platform for all to have the rights to work on a local level to educate children at schools as well as have workshops to achieve behavioural change. Once people have the right to be themselves, the need for international protection will be reduced, and people won't be denied basic amenities due to their orientation.
