Dear friends,
In mid-October, Teach For Japan welcomed Wendy Kopp, CEO and co-founder of Teach For All, together with a member of the Teach For All global team, for three days in Tokyo. Teach For Japan is part of this global network, and the visit was a chance to show how our Fellowship Program is responding to the realities of Japan's public schools, where around three thousand eight hundred teaching positions remain unfilled across the country.
On the first day, we shared the context of Japanese public education and our strategy, and Wendy spoke with employees of a leading Japanese education company about how education, organizations and society change when people take ownership of their learning and their work. The next day, at our office, she joined a conversation with our staff about the future of our Fellowship and our relationship with the global network. On the final evening, she met Fellowship alumni who are now leading change in classrooms, schools and communities.
The visit also opened new steps. With funding from Teach For All, we are creating a new role to connect Japan more closely with the global network, and we are recruiting for it among our alumni. Some alumni have already begun linking their classrooms with classrooms overseas, so that children can learn alongside peers in another country. We want to grow these connections so that Fellows in Japan both learn from and contribute to educators around the world.
Your support makes this possible. According to our 2025 Impact Report, one hundred and one Fellows taught in ninety-five schools across twenty-seven prefectures, reaching more than eight thousand children. Thank you for standing with them.
With gratitude,
Takeaki Nakahara
CEO, Teach For Japan
