Money4Youth Entrepreneurial and Innovative Activities in Liberia, 2020 and Beyond!

An inspiring quote often attributed to Confucius () reads:

“If your plan is for one year, plant rice.

If your plan is for ten years, plant tree.

If your plan is for one hundred years, educate children.”

We are committed to educating youth in Liberia because it matters and makes a diffrence.

GOOD NEWS REPORT:

In the last quarter, we have trained over 50 Women in Brewerville, Liberia on:

    • Principles of Stewardship
    • Uses of Money

We also inaugurated our first Money4Youth Women’s Business Club (Brewerville) with 18 signed up members. Their goals are:

  • To save money,
  • To pull their funds together to lend to each other and
  • To invest in viable business opportunities as a collective

Our Chief Technological Officer ran an innovation workshop which demonstrated how to use the things around the community to teach and to solve local challenges. An example which was immediately adopted was "Water filtering from nature”.

We donated three laptops, a projector and solar clock to the new Computer lab that sits as part of the centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation that was launched in May.

In October we also had the opportunity to jointly review the impact of the project over the past year with our local partners, to update our strategic goals and to map out our joint activities over the coming year.

There has been a positive shift in attitudes in teachers and children alike, since our intervention began in October 2018. This is attested to by them and other observers. We also learnt that in the 2019 WASC examinations, five children achieved up to five pass grades. This is a huge improvement from summer 2018 where every single child failed!

We will continue use our experience and expertise to ensure that (young) people in Liberia are equipped to flourish in the future by:

  • Working with key stakeholders to raise the educational attainment and aspirations of young people.
  • Applying innovative solutions to empower people to succeed in the knowledge economy.
  • Supporting entrepreneurial initiatives to enable people to flourish and increase their income.

Our programme is the only one of its kind in DISTRICT #3, GBARPOLU COUNTY, where financial literacy is not taught in any educational context and computer classes are currently nonexistent. All our initiatives will run in partnership with the Elected Representative of Gbarma District: Hon. Joseph M. Matthews, Jr. as well as other influential community leaders.

We have commissioned ICT classes for the students at Gbarma Central High School which will run from October 2019 to February 2020.

In the new year, we have been invited to ru a one year business development incubator programme for youth that want to start businesses and SMEs. This will be a variation of our UK AVOCADO+ Accelerator Programme and we can’t wait to tell you all about it once it kicks off!

Thank you so much for your support our #WorldChangers family, without which none of these would be possible!
