Transform Education/Improve Livelihoods in Liberia

Nelson Mandela was right: Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

Without knowledge and income-generating skills, people get trapped in the struggle to meet basic needs - a struggle that kills hope in a better future. That’s why education is so important to lift people out of poverty. 

When we visited Gbarma a few months ago, we were shocked by what we saw and heard. It did not seem feasible that in our present day, any education system could be so lacking. On the other hand, we could feel how much the young people, their parents and the whole community wanted help to turn things around. 

Thanks to your generous gifts, we will be returning to continue the process of transformation next month. We will be training teachers to boost their teaching skills as well as working with the whole community to improve the safeguarding of the students. In a world that is changing faster than ever before, our goal is to ensure that the young people have the tools and the skills they need to succeed and are inspired to transform their community and change the world.

Thank you for helping to improve education and economic security for young people and their families in Liberia. Much will be accomplished over the next year, setting the stage for continued progress and lasting change as the project moves forward.

Together, we will also transform the lives of people like Jusu, who emailed to thank us for helping to keep his dream alive when we last visited. He started a service business and was finding it difficult to continue but was re-inspired after attending one of the financial literacy sessions we ran.
