We provide hot, nutritious meals and grocery packs to the homeless, elderly, and low-income families in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Your support funds our weekly community kitchen and dry-ration distribution, offering food and dignity to those in crisis.
In Sri Lanka, the economic crisis has left daily-wage earners, the elderly, and homeless individuals unable to afford three meals a day. Inflation in 2022 caused food prices to skyrocket, forcing vulnerable families to skip meals or rely on low-nutrient options. In Kandy, many elderly people are abandoned without support, and street cleaners and laborers often work on empty stomachs. Hunger strips these individuals of their health, dignity, and hope for a better future.
The Soup Bowl invites the poor to our table. We operate a 'Drop-in Centre' that provides hot, home-cooked rice and curry lunches to over 150 people weekly. Beyond just serving food, we offer a safe space for community and connection. Additionally, we distribute dry ration packs (rice, dhal, sugar) to struggling families.
This project will ensure food security for over 2,000 individuals annually. By guaranteeing a regular nutritious meal, we alleviate the immediate stress of survival, allowing beneficiaries to focus on health and employment. For the elderly and homeless, our community table breaks the cycle of social isolation. Ultimately, we are building a resilient support network where the marginalized feel seen, valued, and cared for by their own community.
