Healthy Food for Students

JAAGO implements a healthy living program to ensure that our students and their families have access to nutritious food. These children and their families cannot meet the challenge of their daily bread. Hence, providing proper nutrition for their growth is preparing them for the future.

Ensuring regular school enrollment and continuing attendance remains a problem across the underprivileged communities of our country. Instead of going to school, parents send their children to work outside to buy food and support their families. JAAGO School & Community Feeding Programme aimed to improve school attendance and performance while reducing hunger and food scarcity in the community. Thus, the community can be engaged with their schools for a longer time and be healthy at the same time.

Here at JAAGO, we provide boiled eggs, bananas, buns, biscuits, nuts, dates, guavas, apples & oranges to all students of each JAAGO School around the country. Around 4,000 JAAGO students are part of our School Feeding Program. Through the discussion regarding the daily food intake, students are conscious of eating nutritious food and living a healthy life. Parents are delighted to receive such support from our schools regularly. They are also getting aware of the nutritional requirements of their children. We also teach them mandatory dining etiquette. From washing hands with soap before meals to dumping waste materials in the bins, they know it all now.

In September, one of our partners, Thrive distributed healthy food to our students in Bandarban and their families. We are thankful for their constant support.

Due to COVID-19, most underprivileged people lost their jobs and don't have income, so they depend on organisations or individuals to help them. It is not an exaggeration to say that your donations have made a real difference in this crisis. Many families now have food at their table. This is the power of your contributions.

But unfortunately, there are millions of people who still need our support. This is why JAAGO implements a healthy living program to ensure that our students and their families have access to nutritious food. One of our most constant donors of healthy meals for the students is “Thrive”.

On June 17th, Thrive provided around 500 monthly food packages to our JAAGO Banani School student’s families. The package included food items such as Rice, Lentils, Soybean Oil, Eggs, Bottle Gourd, Cauliflower, Green Papaya, Muffins and Biscuits. We express our deepest gratitude to Thrive for always standing beside these marginalised communities.

JAAGO is working towards breaking the cycle of poverty through education among thousands of underprivileged community children. Given the fact “Underprivileged”, these children and their family cannot meet the challenge of their daily bread. Hence, providing proper nutrition for their growth is preparing them for the future.

To continue implementing this humanitarian project, we warmly invite you to start a Monthly Donation. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. That is the best way to ensure an ongoing impact. We are looking forward to seeing your support.

Children are the future of any community. Their health, education, and well-being are essential for that future to be bright. Unfortunately, millions of children in Bangladesh don't have the good fortune of healthy, nutritious food. At JAAGO, we believe that providing nutritious meals for malnourished children will help create sustainable nutrition and clean water solutions. Our students in the 11 schools all over Bangladesh receive a quality education and healthy meals every day for their physical and mental well-being.

One of the most significant factors for malnutrition among children in Bangladesh is household food insecurity; this is why JAAGO implements the 'Healthy Living' program as it ensures that our students have access to at least one nutritious meal a day. JAAGO is delighted to partner with Thrive, an organization aiming to provide healthy and nutritious meals to hungry children in the world's poorest parts to feed the students at our schools. Thrive and JAAGO have worked together to determine the needs of our students by the fund raised from the GlobalGiving “Feed the Children” project. Moreover, Honorable British Commissioner Robert Dickson has visited JAAGO Korail with Thrive to ensure the well-being of these children and support our cause of eradicating hunger.

Following the core concept of providing for the underprivileged children and their families, we have distributed household essentials and basic necessities in the Banani area with the help of Thrive and the constant support of our donors in GlobalGiving. To serve the families, we were able to provide our service for thousands of children who need the proper nutritional care along with Educational support.

JAAGO believes in the sustainable development of the children and ensures their health safety in order to prepare them for the future. Without health care security, they can hardly avail the education they deserve. With the help of our donors, we can unleash the possibilities among these children and create a world with easy access to safe health and education in the future as well.

We express our deepest gratitude to the donors who have always rendered support by contributing to the welfare of underprivileged children in our Feed the children project. In particular, the 'Feed the Children' project has been largely supported by valuable donor individuals and organizations to whom we are truly indebted.

Food Bags Kept Them Alive in this Pandemic
Food Bags Kept Them Alive in this Pandemic

Since 2007, JAAGO Foundation has been responding to the urgent needs of underprivileged children in Bangladesh through nutrition and education. Here at JAAGO, we believe that children need to be fed properly along with gaining proper education. Our students in the 11 schools all over Bangladesh not only receive a quality education but also nutritious meals every day for their physical and mental well being.

Recently, the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has caused mankind to face various adversities around the world. Cities have been under lockdown to fight the virus transmission, And the worst affected in this situation are the underprivileged classes of society. This means that the students who would depend on the school’s food package for a healthy meal a day are now denied from it as a consequence of schools being shut down. In such a situation, the JAAGO Foundation has taken the initiative to stand beside these underprivileged communities with food and other essentials.

At the beginning of the pandemic lockdown, around March, JAAGO Foundation helped the families of our children, who did not even have food on their table, through our COVID-19 Relief initiative. With the help of our well-wishers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers, we have already distributed thousands of packages among the worst affected people including our student’s families in different parts of the country. Our volunteers in every district tried their best to reach out to these people and provide them with the necessities.

Though this relief campaign was initiated in Dhaka, we have conducted this program in most of the districts of the country. Our volunteers from Chattogram, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Habiganj, Madaripur, Laxmipur, Gopalganj, Dinajpur, Teknaf, and many more districts worked tirelessly to deliver the underprivileged people of society with food packages.

With deepest gratitude, and warmest wishes we would like to thank our valuable donor organizations and individuals who came forward with a warm heart and considered helping humanity during the global crisis with JAAGO Foundation. With the hope for a better tomorrow, JAAGO Foundation aims to provide the families of the children with such packages as long as they can suffice and the situation gets better. Keep supporting us so that we can do something better for the community together!

Ensuring Food for JAAGO students during Covid

According to statistics, 1 in 4 children don’t know when they will have the privilege to have their next meal. Nutritious food is essential for children in terms of their growth and development needs therefore, imagining the situation of the underprivileged children who are deprived from it is heartbreaking. At JAAGO Foundation, we believe that children need to be fed properly along with gaining proper education. Our students in the 11 schools all over Bangladesh not only receive quality education, but also nutritious meals every day for their physical and mental well being.

In retrospect to the current situation of the world as a whole due to the effects of the Coronavirus or Covid-19, the marginalized communities are being affected the most. In a country like Bangladesh where most families depend on day to day income and live under the poverty line , it has become difficult for the lower income families to afford a meal a day. For the past three months, everything has been put to a halt. After the lockdown was initiated at the end of March, educational institutions have been closed down until further notice. This means that the students who would depend on the school’s food package for a healthy meal a day are now denied from it as a consequence of schools being shut down.

Everyone is in a place where the future seems unclear and most are hitting rock bottom. To combat the situation and give hope to the children in such times of despair, JAAGO Foundation provided relief packages to the families of the students which contained basic food necessities such as- rice, flour, pulse, potato, oil, salt, soap etc., so that the children and families themselves can survive during this catastrophic situation. We have tried to ensure nutrition in all our packages and started distributing to our school students and their families first. Once we ensured all our children have food on their plates, we tried to expand our relief program by giving packages to other needy families in the slum area.

Despite the coronavirus outbreak and the risk factors, JAAGO Foundation has been providing the care packages while still maintaining all the safety precautions. Our volunteers are working day and night in the purpose of packing and distributing relief packages to our students and other families from the low income group to bring peace and hope in these households.

We are extremely grateful to all our supporters who have given these households a ray of hope. With the hope for a better tomorrow, JAAGO Foundation aims to provide the families of the children with such packages as long as they can suffice and the situation gets better. Keep supporting us so that we can do something better for the community together!
