More than 600 animals live at VINE Sanctuary, an LGBTQ-led refuge for farmed animals that works for social and environmental justice as well as animal liberation. The non-human members of our community include survivors of the most extreme cruelty and neglect. Our relationships with them form the basis of everything we do, from local humane education to international environmental initiatives. But their care is our largest cost. By feeding them, you will be seeding change for everyone.
More than 600 chickens, cows, pigeons, sheep, ducks, goats, geese, alpacas, turkeys, emus, and other animals inhabit the hundred-acre woods at VINE sanctuary, collaborating with humans and each other to co-create a place that is safe for everybody. Sanctuary residents include survivors of the meat, dairy, and egg industries as well as domestic violence, cockfighting, hunting, vivisection, and zoos. Some are elder or disabled. All wake up each morning hungry for breakfast.
Of course, buying breakfast for a formerly starved animal is a good and useful thing to do. But your gift today will do more. In addition to providing for the animals in our care, VINE works to end the abuses that make sanctuaries necessary. We believe this can be done most effectively from within caring relationships with animals. By buying a sack of grain or bale of hay, you will become part of a community of care that stretches far beyond the boundaries of the sanctuary.
Everything we do is rooted in relationships with animals at the sanctuary. Our innovative humane education programs teach children compassion and respect for differences. Local events promote vegan eating and veganic gardening. Our national and international educational efforts help people to improve their relationships with animals and nature, so as to be better able to tackle problems like climate change. By feeding the animals at VINE, you also will be making that essential work possible.
