Although Uganda hasn't been declared a country in Africa that is suffering from famine, the conditions are such that our crops dried in the fields this year. A donor helped us buy seeds for beans and now there is so much rain, most of them have been ruined. We're looking ahead at another dry season coming up and not enough food to get us through. We are asking for donations to buy the food for the children and new seeds to get started on next year's crops.
The problem is there is not enough food to get through the next dry season that is coming soon. Our crops dried in the field in March and April. In August, a donor bought seeds for us to replant but now it's raining so much that they are being washed away before they can grow strong enough to produce for us. We are responsible for 100 orphan children split between our orphanage and family based homes in the community. Children are skipping meals, sometimes only receiving 1 meal a day.
This project will raise funds to buy the food all 100 children need to grow strong and healthy in the months to come. It will also raise funds to replant our garden so that they can be supported when the food we have bought runs out. Our large garden has supported us faithfully every year with some help from donors. But this year, the situation is much more desperate and we need as much help as caring donors can give. Even the smallest donation will feed at least half of the children.
The long term effect will be healthy growing children who receive more than 1 meal a day. Children will not go to bed hungry, hoping that God will provide for them the next day. All 100 children, at the orphanage and with family based homes, will know that their next meal has already been provided and they can go with confidence to school and home again. The desperation of famine will be relieved and the children will do well in school, grow strong and have the ability to fight off infection.
